Overview
Tradier is one of the better-value brokers for active options traders, API users and traders who want to connect their brokerage account to third-party trading software. Its standout offer is Tradier Pro, which costs $10 per month and removes commissions on stock trades and equity/ETF options, although exchange, clearing and regulatory fees can still apply.
Tradier is less compelling for passive investors, beginners who want extensive education, or anyone who needs access to a broad range of international markets and asset classes.
Our verdict: Tradier is worth considering if you trade options frequently enough to benefit from its subscription pricing or you specifically want Tradier's API and trading-platform ecosystem. If you primarily buy stocks occasionally, the advantages are much weaker.

Is Tradier worth it?
Tradier is worth it primarily for frequent options traders and traders who want API-based or third-party-platform execution.
The economics are particularly attractive on Tradier Pro. Instead of paying a commission for every equity or ETF options contract, you pay $10 per month for commission-free trading in those products.
That creates a fairly obvious break-even point.
On Tradier Lite, 29 contract commissions at $0.35 each would cost approximately $10.15. Therefore, once you generate roughly 29 commissionable equity/ETF options contracts per month, the $10 Tradier Pro subscription can already cost less than Lite before considering any other Pro benefits.
For example:
10
- Lite commission
- $3.50
- Pro subscription
- $10
- Cheaper plan
- Lite
30
- Lite commission
- $10.50
- Pro subscription
- $10
- Cheaper plan
- Pro
100
- Lite commission
- $35
- Pro subscription
- $10
- Cheaper plan
- Pro
500
- Lite commission
- $175
- Pro subscription
- $10
- Cheaper plan
- Pro
These calculations exclude exchange, clearing and regulatory charges because those can still apply under the subscription plans.
That pricing model is one of the clearest reasons to choose Tradier over a conventional per-contract broker.
It also means Tradier is not automatically cheap for everyone. Someone making five option trades a month does not receive the same economic advantage as an active trader moving hundreds of contracts.
Tradier pricing and fees
Tradier offers three main subscription plans: Lite, Pro and Pro Plus. Tradier Lite has no monthly subscription fee. Published pricing includes: Lite is the better fit for traders who want access to Tradier but trade infrequently. Tradier Pro costs $10 per month and includes: For most active equity-options traders, Pro is the strongest-value plan. Tradier Pro Plus costs $35 per month. The main pricing difference for options traders is the lower commission on single-listed index options: Assignment and exercise fees are also lower on Pro Plus. Pro Plus costs $25 more than Pro. Saving $0.25 per index-options contract means you need about 100 contracts per month to recover that extra subscription cost from index commissions alone. That calculation may work for traders who regularly trade SPX, VIX, XSP or other index products. If you mainly trade equity options, Pro is likely the better choice. The subscription price is not the full cost of using Tradier. Tradier's published fee schedule includes exchange, clearing and regulatory charges. Some account activities also have separate fees. Tradier lists a $50 annual inactivity fee for accounts below $2,000 that make fewer than two trades per year. ACH withdrawals are free, while outgoing domestic wires and account transfers can incur charges. A $0 commission does not mean a fee-free account.
What 100 equity-option contracts a month cost on each Tradier plan
Subscription plus commission. Lite charges $0.35 a contract with no subscription; Pro charges $10 a month and nothing per contract. Pro Plus only earns its extra $25 back on single-listed index options, at roughly 100 contracts a month.
Tradier Lite
Tradier Lite has no monthly subscription charge.
Published pricing includes:
- $0.35 per stock trade
- $0.35 per equity or ETF option contract
- $0.35 per single-listed index option contract
- access to Tradier Web and mobile trading
- API access
Lite makes the most sense for someone who wants access to Tradier but trades infrequently.
Tradier Pro
Tradier Pro costs $10 per month and includes:
- $0 stock commissions
- $0 equity and ETF option commissions
- $0.35 per contract commission on single-listed index options
- Tradier Pro Desktop access
- API access
- waived annual IRA fee
- lower futures pricing than Lite
Tradier Pro is the sweet spot in the range for most active equity-options traders.
Tradier Pro Plus
Tradier Pro Plus costs $35 per month.
The most important difference for options traders is that the commission for single-listed index options falls from $0.35 per contract on Pro to $0.10 on Pro Plus. Assignment and exercise fees are also lower.
Purely on the index-options commission difference, Pro Plus needs considerable volume to justify the upgrade.
Pro Plus costs $25 more than Pro each month. Saving $0.25 per index-option contract means you need approximately 100 index-option contract commissions per month to recover that additional subscription cost from index commissions alone.
If you trade SPX, VIX, XSP or other index products heavily, the calculation can make sense. If you mainly trade equity options, ordinary Pro is likely the better-value plan.
Other Tradier fees to know about
The subscription price is not the entire cost of using Tradier.
Tradier's published schedule includes exchange, clearing and regulatory charges, and some less common account activities have separate fees.
Tradier also lists a $50 annual inactivity fee for accounts below $2,000 that make fewer than two trades per year. ACH withdrawals are free, while outgoing domestic wires and account transfers can incur charges.
The important distinction is simple: commission-free does not mean fee-free.
Is Tradier safe and legit?
Yes. Tradier is a legitimate US brokerage. Tradier Brokerage, Inc. appears in FINRA BrokerCheck under CRD number 104982 and SEC number 8-52972.
Tradier states that Tradier Brokerage is a FINRA and SIPC member. Customer accounts are carried and cleared through Apex Clearing Inc.
SIPC protection can cover eligible securities and cash if a SIPC-member brokerage fails and customer assets are missing. Standard protection is limited to $500,000 per customer, including up to $250,000 for cash.
SIPC does not cover trading losses or a fall in the value of your investments.
Tradier meets the basic regulatory requirements I would expect from a US broker. That does not remove trading risk, margin risk or the operational risk involved in automated strategies.
Tradier's biggest advantage: API and trading-platform flexibility
Tradier's API ecosystem is arguably more important than its native trading interface.
Tradier provides brokerage APIs for:
- live order execution
- stock and ETF trading
- options trading
- complex options strategies
- account balances
- positions
- order history
- market data
- options chains
- streaming market data
Tradier account holders can access real-time market data for US stocks and options through the live Brokerage API. Tradier also provides a sandbox environment for paper trading, although sandbox market data is delayed.
This makes Tradier particularly interesting for traders building:
- algorithmic trading systems
- automated options strategies
- custom dashboards
- portfolio-management tools
- trading bots
- alert-to-order workflows
- proprietary trading interfaces
The sandbox is useful because you can test order logic before giving an automated strategy access to real capital.
Tradier also promotes connections to 100+ trading tools and supports platforms including TradingView.
That modular approach is the real Tradier proposition. You do not necessarily choose Tradier because Tradier has the industry's best standalone interface. You choose it because the brokerage layer can sit underneath the trading software or workflow you prefer.
How good are the Tradier trading platforms?
Tradier offers web, mobile and desktop trading options, but the native platform experience is not its strongest competitive advantage.
Independent BrokerChooser testing published in September 2026 found Tradier Web straightforward to use and praised its charting and API support, while criticising limited customisation, asset search and built-in price alerts. Its testing found similar limitations in the mobile application.
For basic manual trading, that may be perfectly adequate.
For sophisticated traders, the more compelling route is likely to use Tradier alongside a specialist platform or through the API.
Tradier Pro's newer desktop environment also includes tools for multi-leg options trading and a visual spread builder designed for strategies such as iron condors.
So the platform verdict depends heavily on how you intend to trade:
Use Tradier's native platforms if you want straightforward execution.
Use Tradier with a third-party platform if charting, analysis or workflow customisation matters.
Use the Tradier API if automation is the reason you are considering the broker in the first place.
What can you trade with Tradier?
Tradier is primarily focused on the US market.
Its offering centres on:
- US stocks
- ETFs
- equity options
- index options
- futures
Independent testing confirms the product range is significantly narrower than a multi-market broker such as Interactive Brokers. Tradier does not provide the same breadth of international equities, bonds, funds, forex and other markets.
This limitation matters.
If your entire strategy revolves around US stocks, options and futures, additional asset classes may add no real value.
If you want one brokerage account for US equities, European shares, Asian stocks, bonds, currencies and other global markets, Tradier is the wrong tool for the job.
Tradier pros and cons
Tradier advantages
- Excellent economics for frequent equity-options traders. Tradier Pro's $10 monthly subscription can become cheaper than per-contract pricing at surprisingly modest trading volume.
- Strong brokerage API. Tradier supports account data, market data, order execution and options strategies through its developer APIs.
- Paper-trading environment. Developers can test integrations against a sandbox before submitting live orders.
- Third-party platform ecosystem. Tradier can connect with TradingView and a large selection of specialist trading tools.
- Simple subscription model. Costs can become more predictable for high-volume equity-options traders.
- Regulated US brokerage. Tradier Brokerage, Inc. is registered with FINRA and is a SIPC member.
Tradier disadvantages
- Limited market coverage. Tradier is heavily focused on US-listed products rather than being a global multi-asset broker.
- Native platforms are not best-in-class. Independent testing found limitations in search, alerts and customisation.
- Subscription pricing is unnecessary for light traders. Someone trading only a handful of contracts may spend less on Lite.
- Pass-through fees still exist. Commission-free options do not eliminate exchange, clearing and regulatory charges.
- Margin is relatively expensive. Tradier currently publishes a 9.5% margin interest rate.
- Some account activity fees are easy to overlook. Inactivity, wire, ACAT and certain administrative charges can apply.
Tradier vs tastytrade vs Interactive Brokers vs thinkorswim
There is no single "best" options broker. The better question is which broker's pricing and infrastructure match your trading behaviour.
| Broker | Strongest use case | Published US options pricing |
|---|---|---|
| Tradier Pro | Frequent equity-options trading, API integrations | $10/month, $0 equity/ETF option commission |
| tastytrade | Options-focused manual trading platform | $1 to open, $0 to close, capped at $10 per leg for stock/ETF options |
| Interactive Brokers | Global markets, sophisticated execution, broader asset access | Generally $0.15 to $0.65 per US options contract depending on pricing/volume |
| Schwab / thinkorswim | Advanced trading platform plus wider retail brokerage ecosystem | $0.65 per options contract |
You want an options-focused trading experience and prefer transaction-based pricing instead of a monthly brokerage subscription. You need global market access, several asset classes or broader brokerage infrastructure. Interactive Brokers offers much wider market coverage than Tradier. You want a feature-rich native platform, research, education and the wider services of a large brokerage. Schwab charges $0.65 per options contract and provides thinkorswim on desktop, web and mobile.
Choose Tradier if:
You trade equity options frequently, want predictable commission costs, need API access or already use software that integrates with Tradier.
Choose tastytrade if:
Your priority is an options-centric trading experience and you prefer transaction-based pricing instead of a monthly brokerage subscription.
Choose Interactive Brokers if:
You need global market access, multiple asset classes or more sophisticated brokerage infrastructure. Interactive Brokers offers substantially broader market coverage than Tradier.
Choose Schwab and thinkorswim if:
You care more about a feature-rich native trading platform, research, education and the wider services of a large full-service brokerage. Schwab currently charges $0.65 per options contract and provides thinkorswim across desktop, web and mobile.
Who should use Tradier?
Tradier is best suited to active US-market traders rather than passive investors.
Tradier may be a good fit if:
- You trade enough equity or ETF options for the Pro subscription to beat Lite's per-contract pricing.
- You want to automate trading through an API.
- You already use a Tradier-compatible trading platform.
- You trade multi-leg options strategies regularly.
- You value predictable brokerage commissions more than having every possible asset class in one account.
I would look elsewhere if your priority is long-term passive investing, international diversification, a large research library or a highly polished native trading platform.
Is Tradier good for options trading?
Yes. Options trading is where Tradier's proposition is strongest.
The combination of $10-per-month Pro pricing, commission-free equity/ETF options, API execution, options-chain data, multi-leg support and third-party platform integrations gives Tradier a clear niche among active options traders.
The caveat is that Tradier should not automatically be chosen simply because you trade options.
Low-frequency traders should compare Lite against Pro before subscribing. Heavy index-options traders should run the numbers on Pro Plus. Traders who care heavily about platform experience should compare Tradier with tastytrade and thinkorswim.
Does Tradier have paper trading?
Yes. Tradier provides a sandbox for paper trading and API development.
Tradier issues separate production and sandbox API access. The live environment provides real-time trading and market data. The sandbox supports simulated trading with delayed market data.
That difference matters for algorithmic traders. Test order logic in the sandbox before using live capital, but do not assume that simulated fills and delayed data will match live-market execution.
Does Tradier have an API?
Yes. Tradier provides an API for market data, account information and trade execution.
The API supports stock, ETF and options orders, including complex options strategies. It also provides account balances, positions, order history and streaming market information.
API access is one of the strongest reasons to choose Tradier over a conventional retail brokerage.
Final verdict: is Tradier a good broker?
Tradier is a good broker for active options traders and API-driven traders, but it is not a universal brokerage account.
Tradier Pro is the main attraction. At $10 per month, commission-free equity and ETF options can become cheaper than Lite at about 29 monthly contract commissions. Heavy traders can save more as their volume rises.
The trade-off is a narrower product range and a native trading experience that is less developed than platforms such as thinkorswim. Tradier works best as an options-friendly brokerage and execution layer, not as a one-stop account for every type of investor.
If you trade US options frequently or need a broker that connects to an automated trading system, Tradier belongs on your shortlist. If you mainly buy stocks occasionally or need global multi-asset access, other brokers are likely to fit better.
