Which is the better fit?

Consider Topstep

Topstep is one of the better futures prop firms for disciplined intraday traders, particularly if you value an established operator, a relatively straightforward evaluation and a genuine route from simulated funding to a Live Funded Account. The main drawbacks are its Maximum Loss Limit, strict intraday-only trading, payout conditions and a TopstepX-centric platform setup.

Consider TradeDay

TradeDay is a legitimate futures prop firm and one of the stronger options for traders who prioritise straightforward evaluation rules, a genuine route towards live-funded trading and fast access to payouts. However, TradeDay is not automatically the best choice for every futures trader. The biggest catches are the Quick Pay profit split on lower account profits, Fast Pass payout restrictions, trailing drawdown mechanics and several trading-practice restrictions that need to be understood before buying an evaluation.

Which should you fund?

Topstep is the better choice for most futures traders in 2026 because it combines a 90/10 profit split from the start, a Trading Combine that can be passed in as few as two days, relatively simple risk rules and a lower $49 starting monthly price. TradeDay is the better option if day-one payouts, wider platform support or keeping an end-of-day drawdown after funding matter more to you.

The biggest mistake when comparing Topstep vs TradeDay is looking only at the evaluation price. The more important differences appear after you pass.

Topstep gives new traders a 90% share of payouts but requires either three or five qualifying trading days between Express Funded Account payouts and imposes per-request payout caps. TradeDay Quick Pay can pay from the first profitable funded day, but withdrawals made while current account profit is below $4,000 are split 50/50.

Verdict: Topstep wins overall. TradeDay wins for specific trader profiles rather than on the complete package.

Prop firm pricing, promotions and funded account rules change regularly, so confirm the final terms before purchasing.

Topstep's current 50K Standard Trading Combine costs $49 per month and charges a $149 Express Funded Account activation fee after passing. Alternatively, the 50K No Activation Fee path costs $95 per month and removes the activation charge.

TradeDay currently advertises discounted pricing across TradeDay 2.0. Its 50K Quick Pay options include intraday and end-of-day evaluation drawdowns, while Fast Pass trades faster evaluation progression for more restrictive funded payout conditions.

Is Topstep or TradeDay better?

Topstep gives new traders a 90/10 split in both the Standard and Consistency Express Funded Account payout paths. A new Topstep trader therefore keeps 90% of an approved payout before any applicable withdrawal fees.

TradeDay Quick Pay takes the opposite approach. It provides extremely fast access to withdrawals, but the early split is much less attractive. If current profit in a Quick Pay Funded Sim account is below $4,000, the payout is split 50/50. An 80/20 split applies to profit above the threshold only when the withdrawal leaves more than $4,000 of current profit in the account.

That distinction matters more than the headline evaluation fee.

A trader who wants to withdraw profits aggressively may prefer TradeDay's access to cash. A trader trying to maximise the percentage of profitable trading they actually keep will usually find Topstep more attractive.

Which is easier to pass: Topstep or TradeDay?

A Topstep 50K Trading Combine has a $3,000 profit target and a 50% Consistency Target. No single day's profit should exceed 50% of total profit required to pass. Topstep explicitly states that the Trading Combine can be passed in as few as two trading days.

TradeDay Quick Pay also uses a $3,000 profit target on its 50K account, but it requires at least five trading days and applies a stricter 30% consistency objective. No single trading day can represent more than 30% of total profits.

TradeDay Fast Pass reduces the evaluation requirement to three trading days and uses a 45% consistency objective.

So the practical ranking is:

  1. Topstep for the fastest possible pass: as few as two days.
  2. TradeDay Fast Pass for fast progression with an EOD funded drawdown: three-day minimum.
  3. TradeDay Quick Pay for traders willing to prove performance over a longer five-day evaluation in exchange for faster funded withdrawals.

Passing quickly is not automatically better. A rule that conflicts with your normal P&L distribution is more dangerous than an extra three days of trading.

Topstep vs TradeDay drawdown rules

Topstep uses a trailing Maximum Loss Limit calculated from end-of-day performance. The Maximum Loss Limit is $2,000 on a 50K account, $3,000 on a 100K account and $4,500 on a 150K account. The limit rises as the account's end-of-day balance increases and stops trailing once it reaches the starting balance.

TradeDay Quick Pay lets traders choose an intraday or end-of-day trailing drawdown during the evaluation. However, every Quick Pay Funded Sim account switches to an intraday trailing drawdown after passing, even if the evaluation used an end-of-day drawdown.

That is one of the most important differences on the entire page.

A trader can buy TradeDay's EOD Quick Pay evaluation because the drawdown looks attractive, pass it, and then discover that the funded-stage risk calculation is different.

TradeDay Fast Pass solves that problem for traders who specifically want an end-of-day funded drawdown. Fast Pass Funded Sim accounts retain an EOD drawdown, but they introduce a 45% funded consistency requirement for accounts opened from 26 July 2026 and require five qualifying profitable days between payouts.

Choose Topstep if you want straightforward EOD trailing risk throughout the core evaluation and Express Funded stages. Choose TradeDay Fast Pass if retaining an EOD drawdown is more important than maximising payout flexibility.

Which has better payouts: Topstep or TradeDay?

This is where the two firms make fundamentally different bets about what traders value.

Topstep payouts

New Topstep traders receive a 90/10 profit split.

Topstep's Standard Express Funded Account requires five winning days of at least $150 before each payout. Its Consistency payout path requires three trading days and a 40% consistency target.

Express Funded Account withdrawals are limited to 50% of account balance and currently have these standard per-request caps:

50K

Standard XFA cap
$2,000
Consistency XFA cap
$3,000

100K

Standard XFA cap
$3,000
Consistency XFA cap
$4,000

150K

Standard XFA cap
$5,000
Consistency XFA cap
$6,000
Account Standard XFA cap Consistency XFA cap
50K $2,000 $3,000
100K $3,000 $4,000
150K $5,000 $6,000

Topstep removes those dollar payout caps once a trader reaches a Live Funded Account. After 30 qualifying winning days in a Live Funded Account, daily payouts become available.

TradeDay payouts

TradeDay Quick Pay allows a first payout after one funded trading day, has no payout buffer and requires a minimum withdrawal of $250.

The catch is the split.

Below $4,000 of current profit, Quick Pay Funded Sim withdrawals are split 50/50. A full 80/20 split applies only when current profit is above $4,000 and the requested withdrawal leaves more than $4,000 in current profit.

TradeDay Fast Pass pays 80/20 in Funded Sim but requires five qualifying profitable days and currently caps a 50K payout at $1,500 for accounts opened from 26 July 2026.

TradeDay Funded Live withdrawals use a 90/10 split.

The trade-off is therefore simple:

Topstep makes you wait longer but lets you keep more of early funded payouts. TradeDay Quick Pay lets you get money out much sooner but can take 50% of early withdrawals.

For most consistently profitable traders, I prefer Topstep's economics.

For someone whose priority is proving that a prop firm will actually turn simulated profits into cash as quickly as possible, TradeDay Quick Pay is compelling.

Which is cheaper: Topstep or TradeDay?

Topstep's 50K Standard Trading Combine is currently $49 per month. Passing it creates a $149 activation charge for the Express Funded Account.

That means a trader passing a 50K Standard Combine during the first subscription period has paid $198 before trading the Express Funded Account, excluding trading commissions and optional services.

Topstep also offers a $95-per-month 50K No Activation Fee path. A trader confident of passing quickly can therefore avoid the $149 charge entirely.

TradeDay currently charges no activation fee. Its 50K pricing varies by evaluation type and platform route, and promotional pricing was active when this comparison was checked. For example, TradeDay was advertising a 50K Quick Pay EOD evaluation at $79 per month and a 50K Fast Pass EOD evaluation at approximately $85 per month.

That creates an interesting result.

Topstep is cheaper to attempt. TradeDay can be cheaper to pass and activate.

Do not choose between them using monthly subscription price alone. Compare the expected cost of your own likely number of attempts plus any post-pass fee.

Topstep vs TradeDay trading platforms

Topstep's core platform is TopstepX. Topstep describes TopstepX as its only available trading platform, although eligible Trading Combine and Express Funded accounts can connect to Quantower using TopstepX credentials. External TradingView connectivity is not supported.

TradeDay supports a substantially wider platform ecosystem.

Its CQG options include Tradovate and NinjaTrader, with support for TradingView and Jigsaw when the trader has the required licence. TradeDay also supports a Rithmic route with platforms including R|Trader Pro, Quantower, ATAS, MotiveWave, Bookmap, Sierra Chart, EdgeProX and others.

For traders whose strategy relies on a specific DOM, order-flow setup, custom NinjaTrader workflow or existing TradingView configuration, TradeDay is the obvious winner.

For traders happy with a purpose-built web platform, TopstepX has integrated risk controls, TradingView-powered charting and account-management tools specifically designed around the Topstep programme.

Can you trade news with Topstep and TradeDay?

Topstep does not require traders to flatten positions around economic announcements such as CPI, Non-Farm Payrolls or FOMC decisions. Topstep warns about volatility and slippage, but the trades themselves are permitted.

TradeDay automatically liquidates open positions two minutes before designated Tier 1 economic releases and allows trading again two minutes after the release. Repeatedly abusing the restriction can result in losing the account.

That makes Topstep materially better for news traders.

If your edge specifically depends on entering before or trading through CPI, NFP or FOMC volatility, TradeDay is a poor fit regardless of its other advantages.

Who should choose Topstep?

Topstep is the better choice if you want the strongest all-round combination of evaluation speed, payout percentage and straightforward rules.

It particularly suits traders who value:

  • a 90/10 funded profit split from the beginning
  • the ability to pass the evaluation in as few as two days
  • a lower initial 50K subscription cost
  • end-of-day trailing drawdown rather than an intraday funded drawdown
  • the ability to trade through major economic releases
  • TopstepX's integrated risk-management environment
  • a programme designed around progression from simulated evaluation to Express Funded and eventually Live Funded trading

The main compromises are Topstep's payout qualification periods, Express Funded payout caps and relatively limited platform choice.

Who should choose TradeDay?

TradeDay makes more sense when how you trade and withdraw money matters more than receiving the strongest early profit split.

TradeDay is particularly attractive for traders who want Tradovate, NinjaTrader, TradingView, Sierra Chart or another supported external platform.

Quick Pay is also unusually flexible for traders who want to prove the payout process quickly. There is no funded payout buffer, and the first withdrawal can be requested after one trading day.

The compromise is substantial: early Quick Pay withdrawals can be split 50/50, and Quick Pay switches to an intraday trailing drawdown after the evaluation.

Fast Pass provides an alternative for traders who care more about retaining an EOD drawdown, but the funded account then comes with a 45% consistency requirement, five qualifying profitable days and payout caps.

Topstep vs TradeDay for a 50K account

Both companies set the headline 50K evaluation target at $3,000 and provide $2,000 of drawdown, so the decision comes down to what happens around those numbers.

Topstep allows a two-day pass and pays new funded traders at 90/10. TradeDay Quick Pay requires five evaluation days, uses a 30% consistency requirement and starts funded withdrawals at 50/50 while current profit is below $4,000.

TradeDay counters with no activation fee, day-one Quick Pay withdrawals and much better platform flexibility.

If I were choosing strictly on expected long-term economics, Topstep gets the account.

If I had an existing NinjaTrader, Tradovate or specialist order-flow setup that I did not want to change, TradeDay gets the account.

If my strategy depends heavily on an EOD drawdown and I wanted to stay with TradeDay, I would use Fast Pass rather than Quick Pay.

Is Topstep or TradeDay better for beginners?

A beginner is less likely to benefit from TradeDay's broad platform selection and more likely to be hurt by misunderstanding the difference between its evaluation drawdown and funded drawdown.

TopstepX includes configurable loss limits, profit targets, trade limits and account lockouts. Those controls can help prevent one poor session from destroying an otherwise viable funded account.

TradeDay is not inherently worse for beginners, but its choice between Quick Pay, Fast Pass, intraday drawdown, EOD drawdown and different funded payout mechanics creates more decisions before the trader has even placed a trade.

Does Topstep or TradeDay have a daily loss limit?

Topstep's Trading Combine and Express Funded Account use the Maximum Loss Limit as the primary account-closing rule. A Daily Loss Limit is optional in these stages. If a configured Topstep DLL is triggered, trading is stopped for that session rather than the account automatically failing.

TradeDay describes its core evaluation risk rule as not hitting the maximum drawdown. Quick Pay and Fast Pass then differ in how that trailing drawdown is calculated after funding.

This is why comparing prop firms using a single "daily loss limit" column can be misleading. The timing and calculation method of the drawdown often matters more than the headline dollar amount.

Final verdict: Topstep or TradeDay?

Topstep wins this comparison because a 90/10 profit split from the beginning, a two-day minimum pass route, competitive entry pricing, EOD trailing risk and unrestricted economic-release trading create the stronger package for the largest number of traders.

TradeDay still wins three important categories: platform choice, day-one Quick Pay withdrawals and funded EOD drawdown availability through Fast Pass.

So the decision is not complicated:

Best overall: Topstep

Best for fast access to funded payouts: TradeDay Quick Pay

Best for NinjaTrader, Tradovate, TradingView and specialist platform users: TradeDay

Best for news trading: Topstep

Best TradeDay option for traders who hate intraday trailing drawdown: Fast Pass

If none of those TradeDay-specific advantages materially affects your strategy, Topstep is the one I would choose.
