Which is the better fit?
Consider AMP Futures
AMP Futures is a strong futures broker for active, self-directed traders who want very low day-trading margins, competitive trading costs and unusually broad platform choice. I would recommend AMP Futures for experienced futures day traders and scalpers, particularly users of Quantower, TradingView or Sierra Chart. I would not make it my first choice for a complete beginner who wants a polished all-in-one brokerage experience or extensive hand-holding.
Consider NinjaTrader
NinjaTrader is one of the strongest choices for active futures traders who want low intraday margins, competitive commissions, advanced charting and serious strategy automation tools. It is less compelling for investors who want stocks, ETFs and futures in one brokerage account, or traders who want a full native desktop experience on a Mac.
NinjaTrader is the better choice for most retail futures traders who want an integrated broker, trading platform, charting, mobile access and automation ecosystem. AMP Futures is better for experienced traders who prioritise platform choice, data-feed flexibility, broader exchange connectivity and lower published day-trading margins on some popular contracts.
The biggest distinction is that AMP Futures and NinjaTrader are no longer interchangeable parts of the same setup. As of April 10, 2026, AMP Futures says it cannot enable NinjaTrader for new trader setups. Existing qualifying AMP customers who already had NinjaTrader enabled may retain access, but a new trader generally needs to choose between the AMP ecosystem and NinjaTrader's own brokerage ecosystem.
For most traders starting from scratch, NinjaTrader wins overall because the platform, brokerage and account infrastructure work together with less configuration. AMP Futures wins when flexibility and trading costs matter more than having everything under one roof.

AMP requires a minimum $100 deposit to activate live trading. AMP currently publishes a $40 day margin for Micro E-mini S&P 500 futures (MES) and $400 for E-mini S&P 500 futures (ES).
NinjaTrader advertises no account minimum and currently publishes $50 intraday margins for Micro E-mini equity index contracts and $500 margins for popular E-mini contracts such as ES.
Which is better, AMP Futures or NinjaTrader?
That distinction matters more than tiny differences in headline commissions.
NinjaTrader controls the main parts of the trading experience. NinjaTrader, LLC develops the platform, while NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC operates as the futures commission merchant that holds customer funds and clears trades. NinjaTrader Desktop, Web and Mobile are therefore designed around the same brokerage ecosystem.
AMP Futures takes a different approach. AMP positions itself as a futures trading "supercenter" supporting more than 50 trading platforms and four primary data feeds: CQG, Rithmic, Trading Technologies and Teton.
Neither model is inherently better. They solve different problems.
A trader who wants to open an account, install one platform and start trading will probably prefer NinjaTrader.
A trader who specifically wants TradingView, Quantower, Sierra Chart, CQG, Rithmic or another particular execution environment has more reason to choose AMP Futures.
AMP Futures vs NinjaTrader fees
NinjaTrader has the easier pricing model to compare because it publishes three standard commission tiers:
Free
- Monthly/platform cost
- $0
- Micro futures commission
- $0.39 per side
- Standard futures commission
- $1.29 per side
Monthly
- Monthly/platform cost
- $99/month
- Micro futures commission
- $0.29 per side
- Standard futures commission
- $0.99 per side
Lifetime
- Monthly/platform cost
- $1,499 one time
- Micro futures commission
- $0.09 per side
- Standard futures commission
- $0.59 per side
| NinjaTrader plan | Monthly/platform cost | Micro futures commission | Standard futures commission |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | $0.39 per side | $1.29 per side |
| Monthly | $99/month | $0.29 per side | $0.99 per side |
| Lifetime | $1,499 one time | $0.09 per side | $0.59 per side |
NinjaTrader commission per side by plan
Cheaper trades cost more up front: Lifetime is $1,499 once, Monthly is $99 a month.
Exchange, clearing and regulatory fees are additional. NinjaTrader currently lists a $0.19 per-contract clearing fee.
AMP Futures uses a more variable pricing structure. Its commission depends on factors including the product, trading platform, data feed and monthly volume. AMP therefore directs traders to its Exact Cost Calculator rather than publishing one rate that applies universally.
AMP also publishes high-volume pricing that can fall to $0.15 per side plus applicable fees for traders exceeding 10,000 contracts per month. The additional exchange, platform and data-feed costs still matter, so that headline number should not be compared directly with another broker's all-in price.
When does NinjaTrader Lifetime pricing make sense?
NinjaTrader's Lifetime plan costs $1,499 and cuts the Micro commission from $0.39 to $0.09 per side compared with the Free plan.
That saves $0.30 per side, or $0.60 for a complete round trip.
Ignoring fees that are common to both NinjaTrader plans:
$1,499 ÷ $0.60 = approximately 2,499 Micro futures round trips.
For standard contracts, the Free-to-Lifetime saving is $0.70 per side, or $1.40 per round trip:
$1,499 ÷ $1.40 = approximately 1,071 standard-contract round trips.
That does not automatically make Lifetime the cheapest choice because trading frequency, account lifespan and the alternative $99 Monthly plan all affect the calculation. It does give active traders a much more useful way to evaluate the licence than simply looking at the headline $1,499 price.
Which has lower futures margins?
AMP lists:
- MES: $40 per contract
- ES: $400 per contract
NinjaTrader lists:
- MES: $50 per contract
- ES: $500 per contract
There is another difference active traders should notice.
AMP states that its day-trading margins generally remain in effect while the market is open until the final five minutes of the trading session. Traders then need to flatten positions or satisfy the applicable exchange maintenance requirement.
NinjaTrader states that its intraday margin rates generally end 15 minutes before the session close, after which initial margin is required.
That gives AMP an advantage for traders who routinely trade close to the session boundary.
Low margin should not be confused with sensible account capital. A $40 MES margin means AMP may permit a position to be opened with that amount of available purchasing power. It does not mean $40 is enough capital to manage the actual risk of an MES position.
Which has better trading platforms?
NinjaTrader provides Desktop, Web and Mobile trading through its own brokerage ecosystem. Its platform includes charting, simulated trading and strategy tools, while funded accounts can access features including Market Replay and Order Flow+.
NinjaTrader Desktop is particularly strong for traders building custom systems. NinjaScript is a C# framework that supports custom indicators, automated strategies, drawing tools, optimisation, backtesting and platform add-ons. NinjaScript automation runs inside NinjaTrader 8 Desktop on Windows.
AMP Futures takes the opposite approach. Instead of forcing traders into one front end, AMP supports a large range of third-party platforms.
For example, AMP provides the full version of Quantower to qualifying AMP customers without a separate Quantower platform fee when used with the supported AMP connection. Quantower itself includes C# development tools for indicators and automated strategies.
AMP also directly supports TradingView through CQG. AMP states that its CQG credentials can connect to TradingView without an additional monthly broker connection fee, although TradingView subscription costs and exchange data charges may still apply.
The practical decision is simple:
Choose NinjaTrader when NinjaTrader itself is the platform you want. Choose AMP when you want the freedom to choose the platform first and the broker infrastructure second.
Can you use NinjaTrader with AMP Futures?
This is one of the most important pieces of outdated information on older AMP Futures vs NinjaTrader discussions.
AMP states that NinjaTrader restricted AMP's ability to enable NinjaTrader for new trader setups effective April 10, 2026. Even traders who would previously have satisfied AMP's grandfathering rules cannot have NinjaTrader enabled on a new setup.
Existing AMP customers who already had an eligible live AMP/CQG NinjaTrader setup before April 10, 2026 may continue using it if they remain eligible under the grandfathered licence rules.
For someone opening an account today, do not choose AMP on the assumption that you can simply connect a new NinjaTrader installation later.
AMP Futures vs NinjaTrader market data costs
For non-professional traders, AMP's published June 2026 CME Group bundle pricing is:
CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX Level 1
- AMP Futures
- $15/month
- NinjaTrader
- $12/month
CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX Level 2
- AMP Futures
- $45/month
- NinjaTrader
- $48/month
| Market data | AMP Futures | NinjaTrader |
|---|---|---|
| CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX Level 1 | $15/month | $12/month |
| CME, CBOT, NYMEX and COMEX Level 2 | $45/month | $48/month |
The difference is small enough that platform fit and trading commissions will usually matter more than saving $3 per month on data.
AMP also notes that exchange market-data subscriptions are billed for the full calendar month rather than prorated. AMP may disable data if the account balance falls below $100 at month-end.
AMP Futures offers more data-feed and exchange flexibility
AMP supports CQG, Rithmic, Trading Technologies and Teton. Its published CQG exchange list extends beyond the main US futures exchanges and Eurex to markets including ICE, CFE/CBOE, ASX/SFE, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, Japan Exchange Group and Singapore Exchange.
NinjaTrader's current futures brokerage material highlights direct access to CME Group, Eurex, ICE and Coinbase Derivatives, with more than 100 futures contracts available.
For someone trading MES, MNQ or ES, this distinction may make little practical difference.
For a trader who wants a particular overseas futures exchange or deliberately chooses between CQG, Rithmic, TT and Teton, AMP's flexibility becomes much more valuable.
Which broker is better for automated futures trading?
NinjaTrader's advantage is ecosystem depth. NinjaScript uses C# and supports strategy creation, historical backtesting, optimisation, real-time simulation and automated order execution from NinjaTrader Desktop.
AMP does not have one equivalent proprietary programming ecosystem because AMP is deliberately platform-agnostic. Instead, automation capabilities depend on the chosen platform. Quantower, for example, supports C# indicators, automated strategies, plugins and custom extensions.
So the question is not simply which broker "has automation."
If your existing strategies, indicators or developers use NinjaScript, choose NinjaTrader.
If you want to select between different platforms, APIs or execution feeds, AMP gives you more infrastructure choices.
Account fees and inactivity
AMP has an advantage for traders who may leave an account dormant.
AMP Futures states that it does not charge inactivity or maintenance fees. Market-data and platform subscriptions can still continue billing unless they are disabled.
NinjaTrader currently charges a $35 minimum account activity fee on Free-plan accounts that log into the trading solution but make no live trades during the relevant 30-day period. Certain legacy accounts use an older $25 rate.
Both brokers currently list free ACH withdrawals and $30 domestic wire withdrawal charges, making withdrawal pricing broadly similar for a typical US account.
Is AMP Futures or NinjaTrader safer?
AMP Global Clearing, LLC states that it is a CFTC-regulated futures commission merchant and NFA member under NFA ID 0412490. AMP is also a clearing member of CME, CBOT, COMEX and NYMEX.
NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC is registered with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as an FCM and is an NFA member under NFA ID 0309379.
Regulation does not remove futures trading risk. It primarily answers a different question: whether the brokerage entity operates within the US regulated futures framework.
Who should choose AMP Futures?
AMP makes the most sense for traders who:
- Want to use platforms such as TradingView, Quantower, Sierra Chart or another supported third-party platform.
- Specifically want CQG, Rithmic, TT or Teton connectivity.
- Trade markets outside the most common CME contracts.
- Want the currently lower published $40 MES and $400 ES day margins.
- Do not want an inactivity fee.
- Trade enough volume that personalised or volume-based commission pricing is worth investigating.
- Already understand data feeds, routing, exchange-data subscriptions and platform configuration.
AMP is less compelling if you simply want one company to provide the account, platform and trading experience without having to make infrastructure decisions.
Who should choose NinjaTrader?
NinjaTrader makes the most sense for traders who:
- Want NinjaTrader Desktop, Web and Mobile.
- Use or plan to develop NinjaScript indicators and automated strategies.
- Want clearly published Free, Monthly and Lifetime commission tiers.
- Primarily trade mainstream US futures products.
- Prefer fewer decisions around platforms and data feeds.
- Want to practise with NinjaTrader's simulation, backtesting and Market Replay tools.
- Do not specifically need one of AMP's alternative platforms or connectivity providers.
The integrated setup is the main reason NinjaTrader wins the overall comparison. It removes a layer of configuration without sacrificing the charting and automation capabilities most retail futures traders actually need.
AMP Futures vs NinjaTrader: final verdict
Choose NinjaTrader if your priority is an integrated trading environment with Desktop, Web and Mobile access, transparent pricing tiers and a strong C# automation ecosystem.
Choose AMP Futures if your priority is lower published day margins on contracts such as MES and ES, no inactivity fee, access to multiple data feeds, a much broader choice of trading platforms or connectivity to exchanges outside the core NinjaTrader offering.
And if your original plan was to combine the two, check the date of whatever guide you are reading. A new AMP Futures customer can no longer assume they will be able to trade through NinjaTrader. AMP says new NinjaTrader setups have been restricted since April 10, 2026.
Pricing, exchange fees and margin requirements can change, so active traders should verify the exact contract and setup before funding an account. Futures trading involves substantial risk, and broker day-margin requirements are operational minimums rather than recommendations for appropriate account size.
