What to check first
Confirm regional availability, the regulated entity, leverage limits and rollover costs. Forex and CFD losses can accumulate quickly.
Overview
HFM is a legitimate multi-asset forex and CFD broker and is a reasonable choice for traders who want MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5, flexible account types and access to a regulated HF Markets entity in their jurisdiction. However, HFM is not our first choice for the lowest possible trading costs, a large multi-asset product range or traders using aggressive scalping, arbitrage or AI-assisted platform analysis.
For most active forex traders considering HFM, the Zero Account is the strongest account to compare first because it combines raw-style spreads from 0.0 pips with a commission. The Pro Account removes forex commissions but starts from wider spreads.
There is one important catch: HFM is a brand used by several HF Markets Group companies. Your actual regulator, leverage limits, products and investor protections depend on the legal entity that opens your account. A UK or EU HFM account is not equivalent to an offshore account simply because both carry the HFM name.

HFM review: the quick verdict
| Category | Our assessment |
|---|---|
| Overall verdict | Good MetaTrader-focused broker, but not the cheapest or most feature-rich option |
| Best for | MT4/MT5 traders, copy trading users and traders wanting several account structures |
| Best HFM account for active forex trading | Zero Account |
| International minimum opening deposit | $0 on Cent, Zero and Premium accounts |
| Forex spreads | From 0.0 pips on the Zero Account |
| Main platforms | MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, HFM WebTrader, HFM Platform and mobile trading |
| Regulation | Varies by entity, including FCA, CySEC, DFSA, FSCA, Seychelles FSA and Kenya CMA |
| US clients | Not accepted |
| Main weakness | Pricing is competitive rather than market-leading, and product/platform choice is narrower than some rivals |
| Major caution | Offshore InfinityX offers extremely high leverage and should not be treated like a standard retail account |
HFM's international website currently lists five main account types: InfinityX, Cent, Zero, Pro and Premium. Zero, Cent and Premium have no stated minimum opening deposit. Pro requires $100 or €100, while InfinityX requires $500.
Is HFM safe and legitimate?
HFM is a legitimate broker brand, but the safety question should be answered at legal-entity level rather than brand level.
The HF Markets Group includes several regulated companies:
| HFM entity | Regulator | Licence / reference |
|---|---|---|
| HF Markets (UK) Ltd | Financial Conduct Authority, UK | FRN 801701 |
| HF Markets (Europe) Ltd | Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission | 183/12 |
| HF Markets (DIFC) Limited | Dubai Financial Services Authority | F004885 |
| HF Markets SA (PTY) Ltd | Financial Sector Conduct Authority, South Africa | 46632 |
| HF Markets (Seychelles) Ltd | Seychelles Financial Services Authority | SD015 |
| HFM Investments Ltd | Capital Markets Authority, Kenya | 155 |
CySEC's public register confirms HF Markets (Europe) Ltd and licence 183/12, while the DFSA register confirms HF Markets (DIFC) Limited under reference F004885. HFM's regulatory disclosures identify the FCA, FSCA, Seychelles FSA and Kenyan CMA entities.
HF Markets (SV) Ltd is different. It is incorporated in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as an International Business Company. That company registration should not be treated as equivalent to an FCA, CySEC or other securities-dealer licence.
That distinction matters more than a generic claim that “HFM is regulated”.
Before depositing money, check the legal company named in your account agreement and verify that entity directly on the relevant regulator's register.
There is another practical reason to do this. The UK Financial Conduct Authority has previously issued warnings about clone businesses using genuine HF Markets details. The FCA specifically identified HF Markets (UK) Limited, FRN 801701, as the genuine authorised firm in one such warning.
The safest verification process is therefore: broker brand → legal entity → regulator → licence number → approved website/domain.
HFM fees and spreads: is HFM cheap?
HFM's trading costs are competitive, but the broker should not be judged by its advertised spreads from 0.0 pips alone.

HFM states that Zero Account forex spreads start from 0.0 pips and commissions start from $3 per lot. Pro starts from 0.6 pips without commission. Premium and Cent start from 1.4 pips without commission.
The word "from" matters.
ForexBrokers.com independently tested HFM in 2026 and recorded an average EUR/USD spread of 1.8 pips on the Pro Account. That was materially higher than HFM's advertised minimum of 0.6 pips. Its researchers placed HFM around the middle of the market rather than among the cheapest forex brokers.
For context, a 1.8-pip EUR/USD spread costs approximately $18 on a standard 100,000-unit lot when one pip is worth $10. A 0.6-pip spread would cost approximately $6 under the same assumptions.
This does not mean HFM charges 1.8 pips on every trade. Spreads vary. It shows why traders should compare typical or measured all-in costs instead of relying on headline minimums.
Round-turn commission against comparable brokers
Published commission, round turn on one standard lot. Spreads and exchange fees are charged separately.
Which HFM account is best?
The Zero Account is the account we would compare first for active forex trading.
It is most suitable when trading frequency and volume are high enough for the tighter spread to offset the commission. ForexBrokers.com's 2026 testing reached the same conclusion, identifying Zero as the lower-cost route for active MT4 and MT5 traders.
The other accounts have more specific uses:
- Cent Account: suited to very small position sizing and learning with reduced nominal trade sizes. HFM limits this account primarily to forex and gold.
- Premium Account: simple commission-free structure with no minimum opening deposit, but wider spreads starting from 1.4 pips.
- Pro Account: lower advertised spreads from 0.6 pips, no forex commission and a $100 minimum deposit.
- Zero Account: raw-style forex spreads from 0.0 pips plus commission. Best starting point for cost-conscious active traders.
- InfinityX Account: an offshore high-risk account offering unlimited leverage. This is not the account we would recommend to a typical retail trader.
HFM leverage: why your jurisdiction matters
Do not assume that the 1:2000 or “unlimited” leverage advertised on HFM's international website is available to every HFM client.
HFM's international accounts can advertise leverage as high as 1:2000, while InfinityX advertises unlimited leverage.
Regulated retail accounts can be much more restricted.
HF Markets (UK) Ltd limits retail leverage to 1:30 on major forex pairs, 1:20 on non-major forex pairs and gold, 1:10 on many commodities and 1:5 on shares.
HF Markets (Europe) Ltd applies the same 1:30 maximum to major forex pairs for ordinary retail clients under its CySEC-regulated leverage policy.
This is why “What leverage does HFM offer?” has no single correct number.
The correct answer is:
HFM leverage depends on your legal entity, regulatory classification, account type and instrument. International/offshore accounts can offer substantially more leverage than UK or EU retail accounts.
Higher leverage increases exposure rather than improving the underlying quality of a trade. Extremely high leverage can allow a relatively small market move to consume the available account equity very quickly.
HFM trading platforms and markets
HFM is strongest for traders who already want MetaTrader.
The current HFM account range supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, HFM WebTrader, mobile trading and the HFM Platform.
MT4 and MT5 are therefore central to the HFM proposition rather than an optional add-on.
HFM also offers copy trading, and ForexBrokers.com's 2026 testing found the copy-trading functionality integrated into the HFM mobile app.
The instrument count requires more context.
HFM's international homepage markets 500+ trading instruments, covering categories including forex, metals, energies, commodities, indices, stocks, cryptocurrencies, ETFs and bonds.
However, ForexBrokers.com's platform audit counted 344 tradeable symbols on MT5 under HFM's St. Vincent entity, including 38 forex pairs.
Those figures do not necessarily contradict each other because product availability changes by entity, platform and account. They do show why a trader should check the actual instrument list for the account they will receive rather than relying on a group-wide marketing number.
HFM is less compelling if you specifically want a very large multi-asset universe or a broker built around native TradingView or cTrader access.
Does HFM allow scalping, automated trading and AI trading?
HFM's terms allow some MetaTrader automation but restrict certain trading methods and software.
HF Markets (UK) Ltd's terms prohibit certain arbitrage and "picking/sniping" techniques. They also prohibit software that applies artificial-intelligence analysis to the company's system and trading platform.
ForexBrokers.com's August 2026 review identified these clauses as a material disadvantage for aggressive scalpers, arbitrage traders and users of AI-assisted strategies.
This does not mean every Expert Advisor or automated MetaTrader strategy is prohibited. It does mean that traders relying on latency, arbitrage, very short-term execution behaviour or AI interacting with the platform should read the exact terms for their HFM entity before trading real capital.
For these traders, the prohibited-strategy rules matter more than whether one account advertises a spread 0.1 pip lower than another.
HFM deposits and withdrawals
HFM says it does not charge withdrawal fees on its international offering. Banks and payment processors can still charge their own fees.
HFM's international withdrawal page lists bank and card withdrawals as taking roughly 2 to 10 business days. Some alternative payment methods can be processed within 24 hours or instantly. Availability depends on the method and country.
HFM normally applies a return-to-source policy. Funds are generally returned to the original funding method first, particularly for card deposits, before another withdrawal route can be used.
This can explain some withdrawal friction that is mistaken for a refusal to pay. Source-of-funds checks, card-refund rules and anti-money-laundering procedures can restrict where money is sent.
There is also a difference between a minimum account deposit and a minimum payment-method deposit.
For example, an HFM Premium or Zero Account can have a stated minimum opening deposit of $0, while the international funding page lists minimums such as $5 for cards and $100 for bank transfers.
A sensible test with any new broker is to complete verification, fund a small amount through your intended payment method and test a withdrawal before committing more capital.
HFM pros and cons
What we like
- Multiple regulated HF Markets entities are independently verifiable.
- MT4 and MT5 are available across the main international account types.
- Zero Account provides raw-style forex pricing from 0.0 pips.
- Cent, Premium and Zero accounts have no stated minimum opening deposit on the international offering.
- Copy trading is integrated into HFM's wider platform ecosystem.
- HFM says it does not charge its own withdrawal fees, although third-party charges can apply.
- Account structures cover beginners, commission-free traders and more active forex traders.
What we would improve
- HFM's advertised minimum spreads do not tell you the typical all-in trading cost.
- Independent 2026 testing found the Pro Account's average EUR/USD spread higher than the cheapest brokers tested.
- Product availability is more limited than the headline group-wide instrument figure can imply.
- HFM is primarily a MetaTrader broker rather than the obvious choice for TradingView or cTrader users.
- Trading terms deserve careful attention from scalpers, arbitrage traders and users of AI-assisted platform analysis.
- The difference between HFM's regulated and offshore entities is substantial.
- InfinityX's extreme leverage materially increases risk and is not a sensible default account for ordinary retail traders.
Who should choose HFM?
HFM is worth considering if you mainly trade forex, gold or major CFDs through MT4 or MT5 and want to compare raw-spread and commission-free account structures.
HFM makes the most sense for:
- existing MetaTrader users;
- traders comparing raw-spread accounts;
- traders interested in integrated copy trading;
- beginners who want a Cent or demo environment before increasing position size;
- traders whose local jurisdiction gives them access to an appropriately regulated HF Markets company.
HFM is less attractive if you prioritise the lowest measured execution costs, thousands of markets, native TradingView or cTrader access, high-frequency strategies, latency arbitrage or unrestricted AI-assisted platform tools.
Is HFM available in the USA?
No. HFM states that it does not provide services to US citizens or residents.
HFM's international disclosures list several other restricted jurisdictions. Check eligibility using your actual country of residence rather than assuming that access to the international website means you can open an account.
Is HFM the same as HotForex?
Yes. HFM is the current brand of the broker previously known as HotForex.
The company began using the HFM branding as its offering expanded beyond its historic forex focus. HFM's own 2022 communications described the company as "formerly HotForex".
Older searches for "HotForex review", "HotForex broker" and "HF Markets review" generally refer to the same wider broker group. Current account conditions still need to be checked because trading terms change.
Final verdict: is HFM worth using in 2026?
HFM is a credible option for MetaTrader-focused forex and CFD traders, but it is not an automatic best-broker choice.
The decision comes down to four checks:
1. Which HF Markets legal entity will hold your account? 2. What are the typical spread and commission costs for the instruments you trade? 3. Do that entity's leverage and prohibited-trading rules fit your strategy? 4. Can you fund and withdraw through the payment methods you plan to use?
For an active forex trader, compare the HFM Zero Account with equivalent raw-spread accounts elsewhere. Use total spread plus commission for your actual instruments and position sizes, not the advertised minimum spread.
Choose another broker first if you need native TradingView or cTrader, a larger investment universe, the lowest measured forex costs or more freedom for aggressive algorithmic, arbitrage or AI-assisted strategies.
CFDs and leveraged forex products carry a high risk of rapid losses. The leverage and protections applicable to an HFM account depend on the client's jurisdiction and legal entity.
