Pepperstone is the best overall XM alternative for most forex and CFD traders in 2026. It retains the familiar MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 experience but adds cTrader, TradingView and its own trading platform, while offering more competitive pricing for active traders.
IC Markets is a better alternative for traders focused primarily on raw spreads, algorithmic trading and execution costs. XTB is stronger for traders who want a polished proprietary platform and a much broader selection of markets. CMC Markets is the better choice for maximum market coverage, while eToro is the obvious XM alternative for copy trading and social investing.
XM itself remains competitive for beginners who value live education, research and a very low barrier to opening an account. Switching only makes sense if another broker is materially better for the way you actually trade.
Important: Broker products, leverage, investor protections and available platforms vary by country and legal entity. Always verify the entity that will hold your account before depositing funds. CFDs are leveraged products and carry a high risk of loss.

The important point is that there is no single broker that beats XM in every category. The best replacement depends on why you are leaving XM.
1. Pepperstone: Best overall alternative to XM
Pepperstone supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, cTrader, TradingView and its own web and mobile trading platform. XM offers MT4, MT5 and its proprietary platform, making Pepperstone considerably more flexible for traders who want third-party charting or execution tools.
Pricing is another reason to consider switching.
XM's Ultra Low account averaged 1.1 pips on EUR/USD in ForexBrokers.com's 2026 testing. Its Standard account averaged 2.0 pips. XM's Zero account uses commission pricing and starts from an all-in cost of approximately 0.7 pips when the underlying raw spread reaches zero.
Pepperstone's Razor account uses raw spreads plus commission. Pepperstone advertises forex spreads from 0.0 pips, while ForexBrokers.com's tested all-in EUR/USD cost was approximately 0.8 pips using its published pricing data.
Pepperstone is better than XM if you want:
- cTrader or TradingView
- competitive raw-spread trading
- more flexibility for algorithmic strategies
- a broader third-party trading platform ecosystem
- copy-trading options
XM is better than Pepperstone if you want:
- stronger structured education
- extensive live trading rooms
- integrated Trading Central and Reuters research
- a very low initial deposit requirement
Verdict: Choose Pepperstone if you already understand forex trading and want better tools and platform choice. Stay with XM if education and guided research matter more than shaving costs or adding cTrader.
2. IC Markets: Best XM alternative for scalping and algorithmic trading
IC Markets' Raw Spread account averaged 0.02 pips on EUR/USD before commission in ForexBrokers.com's 2026 testing, producing an estimated all-in cost of approximately 0.72 pips. The broker also supports MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView.
That makes IC Markets particularly relevant to traders running strategies where fractions of a pip compound across hundreds or thousands of transactions.
IC Markets also offers VPS support and is heavily oriented towards Expert Advisors, automated strategies and high-frequency trading workflows.
XM can support Expert Advisors through MetaTrader, but algorithmic infrastructure is not its defining advantage. XM's strongest competitive advantage is its combination of education, research and accessibility.
IC Markets makes more sense than XM for:
- scalping
- Expert Advisors
- systematic forex strategies
- high trading volumes
- raw-spread accounts
- cTrader users
There is a trade-off. ForexBrokers.com's proprietary Trust Score gives XM 93/99 versus 83/99 for IC Markets, and IC Markets provides neither XM's proprietary trading platform nor the same depth of structured learning material.
Verdict: If your broker is infrastructure rather than education, IC Markets is arguably the strongest XM replacement on this list.
3. XTB: Best XM alternative for platform experience and broader investing
XTB's xStation 5 platform combines execution, charting, market analysis and account management into one interface. ForexBrokers.com's 2026 review recorded more than 10,500 tradable symbols across the XTB offering, compared with 1,583 symbols at XM. Availability varies by country.
XTB is therefore less of a direct MetaTrader replacement and more of an alternative ecosystem.
That distinction matters.
Someone searching for an XM alternative because they dislike MetaTrader may find XTB substantially more attractive than another MT4-first broker.
Someone with years of custom indicators and automated Expert Advisors will probably find XTB unsuitable because XTB does not currently support MetaTrader, TradingView or third-party algorithmic trading platforms.
Choose XTB over XM when:
- you want xStation 5 rather than MetaTrader
- you want broader multi-asset coverage
- you primarily trade manually
- integrated research and usability matter more than third-party platform support
Verdict: XTB is one of the best XM alternatives for discretionary traders. It is a poor replacement for an XM user whose entire workflow depends on MT4 or MT5 automation.
4. CMC Markets: Best XM alternative for market coverage
CMC Markets provides more than 12,000 CFDs, while ForexBrokers.com's 2026 dataset recorded 21,710 total tradable symbols across the wider offering. Its currency coverage includes 141 currency pairs quoted in both directions, producing 282 quoted forex markets in the review's methodology.
XM, by comparison, offered 54 forex pairs and 1,583 tradable symbols in the same 2026 research dataset.
CMC Markets' Next Generation platform also provides advanced charting, pattern recognition, sentiment information and integrated Reuters news.
The weakness is automation. CMC's proprietary platform does not provide the same automated-trading flexibility that traders get through MT5, cTrader or specialised algorithmic setups.
Verdict: Choose CMC Markets if XM feels too restrictive because of its instrument range. Choose IC Markets or Pepperstone instead if execution infrastructure and automation matter more than having thousands of markets available.
5. eToro: Best XM alternative for copy trading
eToro's CopyTrader ecosystem allows users to identify other investors and automatically replicate their positions. That makes eToro fundamentally different from XM, which is primarily positioned around self-directed forex and CFD trading.
ForexBrokers.com's August 2026 review rated eToro first for copy trading and recorded 7,441 tradable symbols across stocks, ETFs, forex CFDs, crypto and other markets.
The compromise is pricing.
The same review recorded an average EUR/USD spread of approximately 1 pip and noted that eToro's pricing sits above the industry average for cost-sensitive active forex trading.
That makes eToro a poor substitute for someone leaving XM purely to obtain tighter execution costs.
It is a very good substitute for someone leaving XM because they want to follow or copy other traders.
Verdict: Choose eToro for social and copy trading. Do not choose eToro as a cheaper scalping alternative to XM.
Why look for an alternative to XM?
XM is not inherently a weak broker. In fact, XM remains particularly strong for education and research. The problem is that its strengths do not align with every trader.
Lower trading costs
XM's Standard account averaged 2.0 pips on EUR/USD in 2026 testing, making it substantially less attractive to active traders than raw-spread accounts available elsewhere. XM's Ultra Low and Zero accounts narrow the difference considerably, so compare the account you actually use rather than comparing headline "spreads from" figures.
A trader doing ten transactions a month may barely care about a few tenths of a pip.
A strategy executing hundreds of standard lots does.
Access to cTrader or TradingView
XM supports MetaTrader and its own platforms, but traders specifically looking for cTrader should consider Pepperstone, IC Markets or FP Markets.
Pepperstone is particularly useful here because the same broker ecosystem supports MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView.
More markets
XM offered 1,583 tradable symbols in ForexBrokers.com's September 2026 review.
IC Markets offered 7,435, XTB more than 10,500 and CMC Markets more than 20,000 total symbols under the same research provider's methodology.
Raw symbol count is not automatically better. It matters when the additional instruments are markets you genuinely intend to trade.
Better copy trading
A trader looking specifically for copy trading should compare eToro first.
Pepperstone also supports social and copy-trading solutions, but eToro's entire product experience is built much more heavily around discovering and following other investors.
Which XM alternative should you choose?
If you want the closest overall replacement, choose Pepperstone.
If you are an active forex trader or run automated systems, choose IC Markets.
If you want a polished proprietary platform and broad multi-asset access, choose XTB.
If access to the largest possible market range matters most, choose CMC Markets.
If you primarily want to copy other traders, choose eToro.
There is little value in switching from XM to another broker that recreates exactly the same limitation.
Is Pepperstone better than XM?
Pepperstone gives traders access to MT4, MT5, cTrader and TradingView, while XM's strongest differentiators are its live trading rooms, Tradepedia education and integrated research.
For an experienced trader, Pepperstone is the stronger all-round alternative. For someone still learning the mechanics of forex and CFD trading, XM can remain the better fit.
Which XM alternative has the lowest spreads?
Its Raw Spread account produced an estimated 0.72-pip all-in EUR/USD cost in ForexBrokers.com's 2026 testing. Pepperstone's Razor account was approximately 0.8 pips using its published average pricing data. XM's Zero account can start around 0.7 pips all-in when the underlying raw spread reaches zero, so XM itself should not automatically be dismissed as expensive if you qualify for and use the right account.
The more useful comparison is average spread + commission + slippage + financing costs, not the broker's advertised minimum spread.
What is the closest alternative to XM?
Pepperstone therefore lets an existing XM user retain much of their MetaTrader workflow while gaining additional platform choices.
IC Markets is the closer match for an XM user specifically moving towards professional, raw-spread or algorithmic trading.
Should you switch from XM?
XM remains competitive if you value education, integrated market research, MetaTrader support and low initial funding requirements.
Pepperstone is the strongest overall alternative for experienced forex and CFD traders because its platform ecosystem is broader and its pricing structure is better suited to active trading. IC Markets goes further for algorithmic and cost-sensitive strategies, while XTB, CMC Markets and eToro each solve a different problem that XM does not address as effectively.
Before moving funds, compare the exact legal entity, account type, average spreads, commissions, overnight financing, available instruments and investor protections offered in your country. A broker's global brand name matters far less than the specific entity and trading conditions attached to your account.
