Pepperstone is the best OANDA alternative for most active forex and CFD traders outside the United States. It offers MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView, cTrader and its own trading platform, giving traders considerably more platform choice than many OANDA entities. For US forex traders, FOREX.com is the stronger direct alternative, while IG is the better choice for broad market access and Interactive Brokers is the better option for professional multi-asset trading.

There is one important catch: OANDA is not the same product in every country. OANDA Corporation in the United States focuses on spot forex and spot cryptocurrency, while OANDA Global Markets and European OANDA entities offer CFDs and a wider range of instruments. The best replacement therefore depends heavily on where you live and what you actually want to trade.

Platform availability, instruments, leverage and account conditions vary by regulatory entity and country. Always compare the version of each broker actually available where you live.

1. Pepperstone: best OANDA alternative for most active forex and CFD traders

Pepperstone supports its own trading platform alongside MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView and cTrader. That combination is particularly attractive to algorithmic traders, scalpers and technical traders who do not want their broker choice to dictate their software stack. Pepperstone also supports APIs and automated trading tools.

Pepperstone currently advertises more than 1,350 tradable markets across forex, shares, indices, commodities and other CFDs. Its Razor account uses raw spreads plus commission-based pricing on forex and gold, while its Standard account incorporates most trading costs into the spread. The minimum funding amount is currently $10 or the local-currency equivalent on the global offering.

Why choose Pepperstone instead of OANDA?

Pepperstone makes the most sense if your reason for leaving OANDA is platform choice.

OANDA Global Markets already supports MT5 and TradingView, so moving simply because you want MetaTrader 5 may achieve very little if you already have access to OANDA's international product. Pepperstone becomes more compelling if you specifically want cTrader, a broader selection of third-party platforms or its Razor pricing model.

Pepperstone is not the obvious replacement for US traders. Pepperstone's European site explicitly states that its services are not intended for US residents. US traders looking for a broker similar to OANDA should consider FOREX.com instead.

Choose Pepperstone if: you actively trade forex or CFDs, want cTrader or multiple platform choices, and live in a supported jurisdiction.

Stick with OANDA if: you are already happy with TradingView or MT5 and OANDA's instrument range in your country covers everything you trade.

2. FOREX.com: best OANDA alternative for US forex traders

FOREX.com offers approximately 80 currency pairs to US clients and supports its proprietary platform, TradingView, MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. That gives FOREX.com one important advantage over OANDA Corporation in the United States, where OANDA currently promotes MT4 and TradingView rather than MT5.

FOREX.com also offers both spread-based and RAW Pricing accounts. Its US RAW Pricing account currently advertises a $7 commission per $100,000 traded alongside tighter spreads. Accounts can be funded from around $100, although FOREX.com itself notes that trading with only the minimum provides limited flexibility.

Both brokers operate in a heavily regulated US retail forex environment. FOREX.com is registered as a Futures Commission Merchant and Retail Foreign Exchange Dealer with the CFTC and is an NFA member.

Is FOREX.com better than OANDA?

FOREX.com is better than OANDA for a US trader who specifically wants MetaTrader 5, a larger suite of proprietary trading tools or another pricing model to compare against OANDA.

OANDA remains attractive for traders who value a simple account structure and no general minimum deposit requirement. OANDA Corporation currently states that standard US accounts have no minimum deposit requirement.

There is another US-specific difference worth understanding. OANDA Corporation states that standard US accounts are subject to FIFO rules and do not support hedging unless the account qualifies as an Eligible Contract Participant account.

Choose FOREX.com if: you are in the United States and want a close OANDA alternative with MT5, TradingView and multiple forex pricing structures.

3. IG: best alternative to OANDA for wider market access

IG's international CFD offering provides access to more than 17,000 markets, covering forex, indices, shares, commodities, cryptocurrencies and other instruments. That breadth makes IG materially different from a pure forex-first broker.

IG also provides several trading environments. Traders can use IG's own web and mobile platforms, MetaTrader 4, ProRealTime and, for eligible products and users, L2 Dealer. ProRealTime provides advanced charting and can be used across IG's extensive market range.

Why choose IG over OANDA?

The strongest reason to choose IG is market breadth.

An OANDA trader who mainly trades EUR/USD, GBP/USD and a handful of indices may gain little from switching. A trader who regularly moves between forex, global shares, options, commodities and indices benefits much more from IG's broader product catalogue.

IG is therefore less of a like-for-like OANDA replacement and more of an upgrade for traders whose strategy has outgrown a forex-centric account.

Choose IG if: you want one broker for forex plus a large selection of other global markets.

Stick with OANDA if: your trading is predominantly FX and you prefer a simpler platform and product universe.

4. Interactive Brokers: best OANDA alternative for professional multi-asset traders

Interactive Brokers offers 100+ currency pairs across 28 currencies. Its spot FX pricing uses quotes aggregated from 17 major FX dealers, with commissions currently advertised at roughly 0.08 to 0.20 basis points of trade value depending on volume.

Individual IBKR Pro and IBKR Lite accounts currently have no account minimum and no inactivity fee.

The biggest difference between Interactive Brokers and OANDA is not the number of forex pairs. It is the surrounding ecosystem.

Interactive Brokers is fundamentally a global multi-asset brokerage platform. A trader can manage currencies alongside international equities, futures, options, bonds and other instruments rather than running separate broker relationships for each asset class.

Who should switch from OANDA to Interactive Brokers?

Interactive Brokers is particularly compelling for:

  • traders hedging currency exposure created by international stock positions
  • professional or high-volume traders who prefer explicit commissions
  • investors who want spot currencies and exchange-traded assets in one account
  • systematic traders who need professional APIs and execution infrastructure

Interactive Brokers is less attractive if you simply want an easy MetaTrader-style forex experience. Trader Workstation and IBKR's professional tools have a steeper learning curve than OANDA's simpler retail-facing platforms.

Choose Interactive Brokers if: forex is part of a larger multi-asset strategy rather than your entire trading strategy.

5. CMC Markets: best OANDA alternative for forex pair selection

CMC Markets currently advertises 300+ forex pairs through some of its proprietary-platform offerings. Its FX Active pricing provides spreads from 0.0 pips on six major currency pairs plus a fixed commission of $2.50 per $100,000 notional value per transaction.

CMC Markets also supports its own platform, MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and TradingView, although the exact number of instruments available differs substantially between platforms and jurisdictions.

There is generally no minimum deposit simply to open a CMC Markets trading account, although sufficient funds are obviously required before a leveraged position can be opened.

Is CMC Markets better than OANDA?

CMC Markets is better suited to traders who actively use less-common currency crosses or want to combine extensive FX coverage with a large CFD catalogue.

OANDA can still be the cleaner option for traders who do not need hundreds of currency pairs and prefer its ecosystem, particularly existing TradingView users.

Choose CMC Markets if: forex pair coverage is a major part of your broker decision rather than an incidental feature.

Why traders look for alternatives to OANDA

OANDA remains a credible broker, and switching brokers simply because another company advertises a lower minimum spread is usually a poor decision. The useful question is whether another broker fixes a specific limitation in your current setup.

The most common reasons to replace OANDA are:

  1. You need a platform OANDA does not provide in your jurisdiction. US OANDA clients, for example, currently get MT4 and TradingView, while Pepperstone provides MT4, MT5, TradingView and cTrader in supported countries.
  2. You want more markets. IG and Interactive Brokers make more sense when forex forms only part of a broader multi-asset strategy.
  3. You want a different pricing model. Pepperstone Razor, CMC FX Active, FOREX.com RAW Pricing and Interactive Brokers' explicit FX commissions provide alternatives to simple spread-only pricing.
  4. You need different position-management rules. This is particularly relevant in the US, where OANDA states that FIFO applies and hedging is generally unavailable for standard retail accounts.
  5. You trade unusual currency pairs. Interactive Brokers offers 100+ currency pairs, while CMC Markets advertises more than 300 pairs on some regional offerings.

Do not compare broker brands without comparing regulatory entities

A comparison claiming that "OANDA offers X while Pepperstone offers Y" can be misleading unless both claims refer to the same country or regulatory environment.

For example, OANDA Corporation's US accounts provide spot forex and eligible spot cryptocurrency trading, while OANDA Global Markets advertises more than 1,500 tradable instruments and MT5. OANDA's European operation separately advertises more than 1,700 CFDs plus shares and ETFs.

The same issue applies to competing brokers.

Before opening an alternative to OANDA, verify:

  • which legal entity will hold your account
  • which regulator supervises that entity
  • whether client-money or compensation protections apply
  • the instruments available to residents of your country
  • retail leverage limits
  • whether hedging, scalping or automated strategies are permitted
  • the exact spread, commission, financing and withdrawal costs relevant to your trading style

This matters more than a generic "best forex broker" ranking.

Which OANDA alternative has the lowest trading costs?

Headline spreads such as "from 0.0 pips" are minimums, not a guarantee of the spread you will receive.

For active forex traders, compare the all-in round-trip cost:

spread cost + opening commission + closing commission + financing or swap charges + any account-specific fees

For example, CMC Markets' FX Active account currently charges $2.50 per $100,000 per transaction, meaning $5 in commission to open and close a $100,000 position before spread and financing costs are considered. Interactive Brokers instead advertises spot FX commissions between 0.08 and 0.20 basis points of trade value depending on volume.

A meaningful broker comparison should therefore use the currency pairs and position sizes you actually trade rather than ranking brokers from their advertised minimum spread.

What is the closest alternative to OANDA?

FOREX.com and OANDA both serve US retail forex traders and provide TradingView and MetaTrader access. FOREX.com additionally offers MT5 to US clients.

Outside the US, Pepperstone overlaps more closely with OANDA's international forex and CFD offering while adding cTrader and a particularly broad platform stack.

Is Pepperstone better than OANDA?

The comparison changes by jurisdiction. A US resident cannot simply replace OANDA with Pepperstone because Pepperstone does not offer its European services to US residents.

Which OANDA alternative should you choose?

For most active forex and CFD traders outside the United States, Pepperstone is the first OANDA alternative I would compare. It solves the clearest reasons for switching by adding cTrader, MT5, TradingView, MT4 and multiple pricing structures without abandoning the forex and CFD focus.

For US forex traders, FOREX.com is the more logical first comparison.

Choose IG if market breadth matters more than being a pure forex specialist. Choose Interactive Brokers if you need professional spot FX inside a much larger investing and trading account. Choose CMC Markets if an unusually wide selection of currency pairs is the priority.

OANDA itself remains competitive, so do not switch for the sake of switching. The right OANDA alternative is the broker that fixes a concrete limitation in your current account at an acceptable cost and under a regulatory entity you are comfortable using.

Trading forex and CFDs involves substantial risk, particularly when leverage is used. Product availability, investor protections and risk warnings differ by country. Verify the current terms offered by the broker entity serving your jurisdiction before opening or funding an account.
