Which is the better fit?
Consider XTB
XTB is worth considering for self-directed investors, ETF investors and traders who are happy using XTB's proprietary xStation platform. It is less compelling for investors who frequently buy foreign-currency assets, professional traders who depend on MetaTrader or APIs, or anyone who needs the product breadth of a full-service broker such as Interactive Brokers.
Consider eToro
eToro is worth considering if CopyTrader, ease of use and having several asset classes under one roof matter more to you than getting the absolute lowest possible cost for every individual trade.
XTB is the better choice for most investors who prioritise low-cost stock and ETF investing, a stronger traditional trading platform and advanced market-analysis tools. eToro is the better choice if you specifically want CopyTrader, social investing or broad access to directly owned cryptocurrencies.
For a typical investor choosing between XTB and eToro, XTB wins overall on cost and conventional investing functionality. XTB offers commission-free stock and ETF trading up to €100,000 of monthly turnover, while eToro may charge $1 or $2 when opening and closing stock positions depending on the investor's country and the exchange. eToro does, however, charge zero commission on ETF trades regardless of trade size.
The exception is important. If CopyTrader is one of the main reasons you are opening an account, choose eToro. XTB does not offer an equivalent social copy-trading system, while eToro's CopyTrader can automatically replicate the portfolios and trades of approved investors.

The exact fee schedule, available products and regulated entity depend on where you live. Always check the local XTB or eToro pricing page before opening an account.
Is XTB or eToro cheaper?
XTB charges no commission on purchases and sales of stocks and ETFs until total monthly turnover exceeds €100,000. Above that threshold, XTB applies a 0.2% commission, with the minimum commission depending on the relevant account terms. XTB also applies a 0.5% currency conversion charge where a conversion is required.
eToro's stock pricing is more complicated. A flat commission of $1 or $2 may apply when opening and closing stock positions, depending on the investor's country and the exchange where the share is listed. ETFs are different: eToro currently charges zero commission on ETF transactions regardless of trade size.
That creates a useful distinction.
If you bought ten individual stock positions and eToro charged $1 on both entry and exit, you would incur $20 of stock commissions before considering other costs. The same stock turnover could remain commission-free at XTB if your total monthly turnover stayed below the €100,000 threshold and no other charge applied.
For an investor buying only ETFs, however, the difference is much smaller because both platforms can offer zero-commission ETF investing.

XTB's inactivity fee only applies when both conditions are met: no position has been opened or closed for 365 days and no deposit has been made for 90 days. eToro currently lists its inactivity fee as free.
The cheapest broker therefore depends on what you trade. For ordinary stock investing, XTB has the pricing advantage. For an ETF-only portfolio, eToro's uncapped zero-commission ETF policy makes the contest much closer.
Which has more stocks, ETFs and markets?
XTB states that its platform provides access to around 11,800 instruments, including stocks, ETFs and CFDs. Its current stock offering includes more than 7,100 shares across 16 major exchanges.
eToro offers more than 6,000 stocks across 20 exchanges, alongside ETFs, currencies, indices, commodities and cryptocurrencies.
Counting instruments alone can be misleading because a stock, a stock CFD and another derivative referencing the same market are not equivalent investment products. The more useful distinction is what each broker is strongest at.
XTB is stronger for:
- Individual shares
- ETFs
- Forex and CFD trading
- Indices and commodities
- Traditional technical market analysis
- Investors combining long-term holdings with active trading
eToro is stronger for:
- Direct cryptocurrency investing
- Copy trading
- Social investing
- Smart Portfolios
- Investors who want stocks, ETFs and crypto inside one social-first ecosystem
Is XTB or eToro better for cryptocurrency?
eToro expanded its platform to more than 200 cryptoassets in May 2026. Eligible users can buy underlying cryptoassets rather than only speculating on their price through CFDs. eToro's current standard crypto pricing for Bronze, Silver and Gold Club members is 1% per crypto position, with lower rates available to some higher Club tiers and higher-volume traders.
XTB's crypto proposition is changing rapidly, but its availability is much more jurisdiction-dependent.
XTB launched spot cryptocurrency trading in Chile in 2026 with 46 cryptoassets and has announced plans to expand spot crypto into additional markets. In Poland and several other markets, however, XTB has historically provided cryptocurrency exposure primarily through CFDs and exchange-traded products rather than direct ownership of the underlying coins.
That means the answer is straightforward today: choose eToro if directly owning and trading a broad range of cryptocurrencies is an important part of your portfolio.
Choose XTB instead if cryptocurrency is secondary and your main activity is stocks, ETFs, forex or other conventional markets.
Which trading platform is better, XTB or eToro?
XTB's proprietary platform includes advanced charts, technical-analysis tools, a stock and ETF screener, market heatmap, economic calendar, market statistics, market sentiment and real-time portfolio management.
That combination makes XTB particularly useful for traders who actually want to analyse a market before placing the trade.
eToro takes a different approach. Its platform is built around accessibility, community data, social investing, CopyTrader and portfolio products. eToro has also moved well beyond being a basic beginner platform. During 2026 it launched a new mobile experience centred around its Tori AI agent, expanded its application ecosystem and announced a new desktop platform aimed at more active traders.
eToro also offers 24/5 trading for stocks in the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100, allowing eligible users to trade those shares beyond standard US exchange hours.
The platforms therefore solve different problems.
Choose XTB's platform if you want to analyse and execute your own trades. Choose eToro if you want investing ideas, other investors and automation built into the experience.
Is eToro better than XTB for copy trading?
CopyTrader allows an eToro user to select an approved investor and automatically replicate that investor's portfolio allocation and future activity proportionally.
The minimum amount required to copy one trader is currently $200, and each copied position must normally have at least $1 allocated to it. There is no additional CopyTrader management charge, although the normal fees and spreads associated with the underlying investments can still apply.
This is arguably the single biggest reason to pick eToro over XTB.
It is also worth being clear about what CopyTrader does not do. Copying another investor does not remove investment risk. A trader's historical performance does not guarantee similar future returns, and copying simply transfers their portfolio decisions into your account.
If you intend to select and manage your own investments anyway, eToro's copy-trading advantage becomes far less important.
Which is better for long-term investing?
XTB's main advantage is simple: the platform combines low-cost stocks and ETFs with Investment Plans for automated portfolio building.
XTB Investment Plans allow users to create portfolios from stocks and ETFs, use ready-made ETF portfolios or build sector-focused plans. Investment Plans 2.0 also supports recurring automatic investment, and the minimum investment is currently around £15, €15 or $15 depending on the account.
For somebody regularly buying global ETFs and individual shares, that is a compelling setup.
eToro offers its own long-term tools, including recurring investments and Smart Portfolios. Its biggest advantage is breadth of portfolio type. An investor can combine shares, ETFs, crypto, copied investors and managed thematic portfolios without leaving the ecosystem.
Neither proposition is objectively best for every portfolio.
A self-directed stock and ETF investor should lean towards XTB. A multi-asset investor who values automation, social signals and crypto should lean towards eToro.
Is XTB safer than eToro?
In the UK, XTB Limited is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority under FRN 522157. XTB is also a publicly listed company and reports more than 2.9 million investors globally.
eToro (UK) Ltd is authorised and regulated by the FCA under FRN 583263. In the European Union, eToro (Europe) Ltd is regulated by CySEC under licence 109/10 and received a MiCA licence for regulated crypto services in the European Economic Area.
eToro has also been listed on Nasdaq under the ticker ETOR since May 2025. It reported 4.28 million funded accounts at the end of the second quarter of 2026.
Regulation does not make investing risk-free. It governs the broker and how it operates. It does not protect you from a stock falling 50%, a cryptocurrency collapsing or a leveraged CFD position moving against you.
The practical check is therefore not simply "Is XTB safe?" or "Is eToro safe?" It is:
- Which legal entity will hold your account?
- Which regulator supervises that entity?
- What client-money and compensation arrangements apply?
- Are you buying an underlying investment or trading a CFD?
That final distinction matters because leveraged CFDs behave very differently from owning ordinary shares or ETFs.
XTB vs eToro: which should you choose?
Choose XTB if you:
- Mainly buy stocks and ETFs
- Make frequent individual stock trades
- Want strong charting and technical-analysis tools
- Trade forex, indices, commodities or CFDs
- Prefer managing your own trades
- Want automated stock and ETF Investment Plans
- Do not need copy trading
Choose eToro if you:
- Want CopyTrader
- Value a social investing community
- Want direct access to a broad cryptocurrency range
- Use Smart Portfolios
- Want stocks, ETFs and crypto within one ecosystem
- Value extended 24/5 trading on major US stocks
- Prefer investment discovery and automation over traditional trading tools
XTB vs eToro for beginners: which is better?
eToro makes discovering investments and following other investors extremely easy.
XTB puts more emphasis on market analysis, research, portfolio construction and trading tools.
The right choice depends on the type of beginner you are. Someone who wants simplicity may prefer eToro. Someone who wants to become a self-directed investor may get more long-term value from XTB.
Does XTB have CopyTrader like eToro?
No. XTB does not currently offer a direct equivalent to eToro CopyTrader.
XTB offers Investment Plans and automated recurring investing, but these are portfolio-building tools rather than a system for automatically copying another individual trader.
If copying other investors is a must-have feature, eToro is the clear choice.
Is XTB cheaper than eToro?
XTB offers 0% stock and ETF commissions up to €100,000 of monthly turnover. eToro may charge $1 or $2 when opening and closing stock investments depending on the country and exchange, but eToro currently charges zero commission on ETFs regardless of transaction size.
Currency conversion, CFD spreads, overnight financing and other product-specific charges can change the result.
Can you use both XTB and eToro?
Yes. There is no reason an investor must use only one broker.
In fact, the platforms can complement each other. An investor might hold a core stock and ETF portfolio at XTB while using eToro specifically for CopyTrader or cryptocurrency.
Using two brokers creates additional account administration and potentially more complicated tax reporting, so there should be a genuine reason for splitting the portfolio.
Final verdict: XTB or eToro?
Its combination of low stock and ETF commissions, broad market access, Investment Plans and stronger conventional trading tools makes XTB the more complete default option.
eToro wins when its unique features are actually the reason you are choosing the platform. CopyTrader is materially different from anything XTB offers, and eToro currently has the stronger direct cryptocurrency proposition.
The decision is therefore simpler than most broker comparison tables make it look:
Pick XTB for low-cost self-directed investing and trading. Pick eToro for copy trading, social investing and crypto.
Before opening either account, check the current pricing and product availability for your country because commissions, currency conversion, crypto access and regulatory protection can vary by jurisdiction.
Investing involves risk and the value of investments can fall as well as rise. CFDs are leveraged products and can result in rapid losses. This comparison is intended to explain the differences between XTB and eToro rather than provide personalised investment advice.
