Which is the better fit?

Consider Vantage

Vantage is competitive on trading costs, platforms and account choice, but we would verify the legal entity before depositing any money. For experienced forex and CFD traders, particularly those considering the Raw ECN account, Vantage deserves a shortlist position. Traders who prioritise maximum regulatory protection over leverage, promotions or offshore account flexibility should pay especially close attention to where their account is actually held.

Consider IC Markets

IC Markets is a strong choice for active forex and CFD traders who want tight raw pricing, MetaTrader, cTrader or TradingView, and support for strategies such as scalping and automated trading. The biggest caveat is regulation: IC Markets operates through different legal entities, and the investor protections, leverage limits, fees and available products depend on which entity actually holds your account.

IC Markets is the better broker overall for most active forex and CFD traders, particularly if low trading costs, cTrader, algorithmic trading and a broader selection of markets matter most. Vantage is the better choice if you want to start with less capital or prefer its integrated Vantage App and copy-trading ecosystem.

The difference is not huge. Both brokers offer MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, raw-spread accounts and competitive CFD trading conditions. The deciding factors are trading platform, account type, regulatory entity and how frequently you trade.

Our overall verdict:

  • Best overall: IC Markets
  • Best for active forex traders: IC Markets
  • Best for cTrader: IC Markets
  • Best for automated trading and Expert Advisors: IC Markets
  • Best for a lower starting deposit: Vantage
  • Best proprietary mobile and copy-trading experience: Vantage
  • Best for MetaTrader RAW commission alone: Vantage can be cheaper, depending on the account and jurisdiction

Vantage currently advertises RAW ECN spreads from 0.0 pips with commissions from US$3 per standard lot per side and an international starting deposit of US$50. IC Markets' current Australian and European account pages advertise raw spreads from 0.0 pips, US$3.50 per lot per side on MetaTrader and US$3 per US$100,000 traded on cTrader.

Which Is Better, Vantage or IC Markets?

The biggest advantage is platform flexibility. IC Markets supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and cTrader, with TradingView connectivity available on supported accounts. Its Raw Spread accounts are explicitly designed around day traders, scalpers and Expert Advisors. IC Markets also advertises servers in Equinix NY4 for MetaTrader and LD5 in London for cTrader.

Vantage is still highly competitive. Its RAW ECN commission is lower than the standard IC Markets MetaTrader Raw Spread commission in USD terms, and its US$50 advertised starting deposit makes it much easier to open a smaller account. Vantage also has a stronger proprietary ecosystem through the Vantage App, Vantage Web Trading and integrated copy trading.

So this is not a case of IC Markets beating Vantage everywhere. IC Markets simply wins more of the criteria that matter to high-frequency and technically sophisticated forex traders.

Vantage vs IC Markets Spreads and Trading Fees

Vantage charges US$3 per standard lot per side on its RAW ECN account, equivalent to US$6 round turn. Its Standard STP account charges no separate forex commission and currently advertises spreads from 1.1 pips.

IC Markets charges US$3.50 per standard lot per side on its MetaTrader Raw Spread account, equivalent to US$7 round turn. Its cTrader pricing is different: the commission is US$3 per US$100,000 traded per side rather than a fixed commission per lot. IC Markets currently publishes an average EUR/USD raw spread of 0.1 pips and spreads from 0.0 pips. Its Standard account starts from 0.8 pips with no separate commission.

That creates an important distinction competitors often miss.

If you exclusively use MetaTrader RAW pricing, Vantage's US$6 round-turn commission is lower than IC Markets' US$7 MetaTrader round-turn commission before the spread is considered.

If you use cTrader, IC Markets becomes much more attractive because Vantage does not currently offer cTrader and IC Markets charges US$3 per US$100,000 per side.

If you use a commission-free Standard account, IC Markets' advertised starting spread of 0.8 pips is lower than Vantage's currently advertised 1.1 pips. Actual spreads are variable, so starting or average spreads should not be confused with the spread available on every trade.

Independent comparison data also currently gives IC Markets the advantage on trading fees overall, although the effective cost varies by platform, account and market conditions.

Which Broker Is Cheaper for Scalping?

IC Markets' combination of raw spreads, cTrader, MetaTrader infrastructure and an account specifically positioned for scalpers gives it the better complete package. Vantage's lower US$6 round-turn RAW commission nevertheless makes it worth comparing live spreads if you are committed to MT4 or MT5.

For a high-volume trader, a difference of even US$1 per completed standard lot scales quickly. At 500 round-turn lots per month, a US$1 difference in commission equals US$500 before considering spreads, swaps, rebates and slippage.

That is why comparing the commission headline alone is not enough. The relevant number is your all-in realised trading cost.

Vantage vs IC Markets Trading Platforms

Both brokers support MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, so traders running existing MT4 Expert Advisors or MT5 systems can use either broker.

The major difference is cTrader. IC Markets offers cTrader and supports TradingView connectivity on relevant cTrader accounts. IC Markets' Australian account pages list cTrader and TradingView together on its Raw Spread account, while its European operation also offers cTrader.

Vantage instead puts more emphasis on its own ecosystem. The broker currently offers the Vantage App, Vantage Web Trading, MT4, MT5 and integrated copy trading, with TradingView also supported for relevant products and accounts.

For a trader choosing purely by platform:

Choose IC Markets if cTrader is important. Choose Vantage if you want a more integrated broker-owned app and copy-trading experience.

Is Vantage or IC Markets Better for Copy Trading?

Vantage Copy Trading is built into the Vantage ecosystem. Users can browse signal providers, examine performance information and manage copying through the Vantage App and Client Portal. Vantage says its own copy-trading service does not charge management or subscription fees, although normal trading costs such as spreads and swaps can still apply.

IC Markets also supports social and copy-trading functionality through its platform ecosystem, but Vantage makes copy trading a much more central part of its proprietary product experience.

That does not mean copied strategies are low risk. A signal provider's historical returns do not guarantee future performance, and copying another trader still exposes the account to market, leverage and strategy risk.

Vantage vs IC Markets for Automated Trading

IC Markets explicitly positions its Raw Spread MetaTrader accounts for Expert Advisors and scalpers. Its MetaTrader servers are hosted in Equinix NY4, while its cTrader infrastructure uses the LD5 Equinix data centre in London.

Vantage supports Expert Advisors through MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 as well, so automated trading is available with both brokers. The advantage for IC Markets is the additional cTrader environment and the broker's broader focus on raw-pricing and algorithmic trading workflows.

That makes IC Markets the more flexible option if your infrastructure rather than the broker's mobile app is doing most of the work.

Which Has More Markets, Vantage or IC Markets?

Vantage advertises access to more than 1,000 trading products through its app and platform ecosystem.

IC Markets Australia currently advertises more than 2,250 tradeable CFD products across forex, commodities, shares, cryptocurrencies, indices and bonds.

The exact instrument count can vary by jurisdiction and platform, so a headline global total should not be treated as universally available to every client.

This matters especially for share-CFD traders. A broker may advertise thousands of instruments globally while a particular legal entity, platform or country receives a smaller subset.

Vantage vs IC Markets Regulation and Safety

This is the most important qualification in the entire comparison.

Vantage is a group of companies rather than one globally regulated brokerage entity. Vantage's current international website explicitly warns visitors that an account opened there may be with Vantage Global Limited under the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission, rather than with the UK FCA-regulated company. The group also identifies Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd as regulated by ASIC in Australia and Vantage Global Prime LLP as regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority.

IC Markets also operates through different companies. International Capital Markets Pty Ltd is regulated by ASIC in Australia under AFSL 335692. IC Markets (EU) Ltd is authorised by CySEC under licence 362/18. The international IC Markets Global business is operated by Raw Trading Ltd under Seychelles Financial Services Authority licence SD018.

Those are not interchangeable protections.

For example, IC Markets EU states that retail clients receive negative balance protection and that client funds are held in segregated accounts under applicable European client-money rules. Vantage's international website explicitly warns that clients using an international entity do not automatically receive the protections associated with its separate FCA-regulated UK business.

Always identify the company named in the Client Agreement before depositing money. The regulator displayed somewhere on a broker group's global website is less important than the regulator supervising the exact company that legally holds your account.

Minimum Deposit: Vantage or IC Markets?

Vantage's current international account pages advertise a US$50 minimum deposit for both Standard STP and RAW ECN accounts.

IC Markets is less straightforward because its current first-party information varies by entity and page. IC Markets Australia's account overview lists a US$200 starting deposit. The IC Markets EU FAQ says clients can open an account with as little as €200 or the currency equivalent. However, another current IC Markets EU product page displays “No minimum deposit.”

Rather than pretending one global IC Markets minimum applies everywhere, check the amount displayed during registration for the entity serving your country.

Either way, the minimum deposit is an access requirement, not a sensible trading-capital recommendation. A broker allowing a US$50 deposit does not mean US$50 is sufficient capital for a particular leveraged trading strategy.

Deposits and Withdrawals

Vantage says withdrawals are generally processed within 24 hours. Its international policy states that receipt can take approximately one to seven business days or longer depending on the method, with bank wires commonly taking three to five business days or more. Vantage itself does not charge a withdrawal fee under that policy, although intermediary or bank charges may apply.

IC Markets EU says withdrawals are processed within 24 hours and bank funds typically take approximately two to five business days to arrive. IC Markets Australia processes qualifying requests received before its daily cut-off on the same day and states that it does not charge additional deposit or withdrawal fees, although banking intermediaries can impose their own charges.

Both brokers also apply anti-money-laundering controls that can require funds to be returned to the original funding source or an account held in the client's own name.

Who Should Choose IC Markets?

IC Markets makes the most sense for active forex traders, scalpers, algorithmic traders, Expert Advisor users, cTrader users and traders who want a broader advertised CFD selection.

The combination of cTrader, MT4, MT5, raw pricing and infrastructure specifically built around active trading is why IC Markets gets our overall recommendation.

The exception is a MetaTrader trader who primarily cares about the advertised RAW commission. Vantage's US$3 per side RAW commission is cheaper than the US$3.50 per side charged by IC Markets on its MetaTrader Raw Spread account, before the effect of spreads and any volume rebates.

Who Should Choose Vantage?

Vantage is particularly competitive for newer traders who want to begin with a smaller account and for users who prefer managing trading, funding, analysis and copy trading inside one broker ecosystem.

Vantage is also a legitimate alternative for experienced MetaTrader traders. Its RAW ECN pricing starts from 0.0 pips with a US$3 per-side commission, so it should not be dismissed as merely the beginner-friendly option.

Vantage vs IC Markets: Final Verdict

IC Markets is our first choice for serious active forex and CFD traders because it combines competitive raw pricing with MT4, MT5, cTrader, TradingView support on relevant accounts and a wider advertised CFD selection.

Vantage wins two meaningful categories. It offers a much clearer US$50 starting point, and its proprietary app and native copy-trading ecosystem are stronger reasons to choose it over IC Markets.

For an active trader choosing between the two, we would start with IC Markets.

For a trader prioritising a smaller initial deposit or integrated copy trading, we would choose Vantage.

Before opening either account, verify the exact legal entity, regulator, account pricing and protections shown during your own registration. Vantage and IC Markets both operate multiple entities, and leverage, instruments, investor protections and account terms can change materially depending on where you live.

Trading forex and CFDs involves significant risk and leverage can amplify losses. Broker selection does not remove the underlying risks of leveraged trading. This comparison evaluates broker features and trading conditions, not whether CFDs are appropriate for an individual investor.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is IC Markets better than Vantage?

IC Markets is better than Vantage for most active forex traders because it offers cTrader alongside MT4 and MT5, competitive raw pricing and an infrastructure explicitly designed around scalpers, Expert Advisors and high-volume trading. Vantage is stronger for a lower entry deposit and integrated copy trading.

Is Vantage cheaper than IC Markets?

Vantage can be cheaper on a MetaTrader RAW account, but it is not universally cheaper. Vantage currently advertises US$3 per standard lot per side on RAW ECN, while IC Markets charges US$3.50 per lot per side on MetaTrader Raw Spread. IC Markets cTrader pricing is US$3 per US$100,000 per side, and IC Markets' Standard account currently starts from a tighter advertised spread than Vantage's international Standard account.

Does Vantage or IC Markets offer cTrader?

IC Markets offers cTrader; Vantage currently does not list cTrader among its main trading platforms. Both brokers support MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5, and both provide access to TradingView in supported account configurations.

Is Vantage or IC Markets safer?

Safety depends more on the legal entity holding your account than on the Vantage or IC Markets brand name alone. Both groups have entities regulated by established authorities, including ASIC, while Vantage also operates a separate FCA-regulated UK entity and IC Markets operates a CySEC-regulated EU entity. International clients can instead be onboarded through offshore-regulated companies with different protections. Check the company and regulator named in your actual account agreement.
