Which is the better fit?
Consider eToro
eToro is worth considering if CopyTrader, ease of use and having several asset classes under one roof matter more to you than getting the absolute lowest possible cost for every individual trade.
Consider Vantage
Vantage is competitive on trading costs, platforms and account choice, but we would verify the legal entity before depositing any money. For experienced forex and CFD traders, particularly those considering the Raw ECN account, Vantage deserves a shortlist position. Traders who prioritise maximum regulatory protection over leverage, promotions or offshore account flexibility should pay especially close attention to where their account is actually held.
eToro is the better choice for most retail investors, while Vantage is better for active forex and CFD traders. eToro has the stronger proposition for buying stocks, building a diversified investment portfolio and using social or copy trading. Vantage has the edge if your priority is MetaTrader, TradingView, automated strategies and low raw forex spreads.
The biggest difference is not a rating score or a $50 deposit. It is what you are actually trying to do with the account.
Choose eToro if you want to invest in underlying stocks, use CopyTrader or prefer a simpler multi-asset investing platform. Choose Vantage if you mainly trade leveraged forex and CFDs and care about execution tools, MetaTrader and raw-spread pricing.
Features, regulation and pricing can differ by country and legal entity.

eToro currently offers more than 6,000 stocks across 20 exchanges, and eligible non-leveraged long stock positions can give the customer exposure to the underlying asset rather than a CFD. Vantage describes its offering as more than 1,000 CFD products covering forex, indices, commodities, shares, ETFs and bonds.
Which is better, eToro or Vantage?
That distinction matters more than almost every secondary feature.
A user buying Nvidia shares for a five-year portfolio has a fundamentally different requirement from a trader opening 20 EUR/USD positions per week through an Expert Advisor. Comparing both users using one generic "broker score" produces a fairly useless answer.
Choose eToro if you:
- want to buy and hold stocks rather than only speculate on their price through CFDs
- want fractional stock investing
- want access to thousands of listed shares
- want CopyTrader and a strong social-investing environment
- prefer an easier proprietary platform instead of configuring MetaTrader
- invest across stocks, ETFs, crypto and other markets
- are a beginner or intermediate investor who values simplicity
Choose Vantage if you:
- primarily trade forex or CFDs
- want spreads from 0.0 pips on a Raw ECN account
- use MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5
- use Expert Advisors or automated trading strategies
- want to execute through TradingView
- scalp, day trade or trade frequently enough for spread and commission differences to matter
- want a broker built more around active trading than long-term investing
If your objective is simply "buy shares every month and hold them", I would pick eToro between these two.
If your objective is "trade EUR/USD actively through MT5 with an EA", I would pick Vantage.
The most important difference: investing versus CFD trading
eToro combines investing and trading. On eligible non-leveraged BUY positions, eToro users can purchase the underlying stock, including fractional shares. eToro says it currently provides access to more than 6,000 stocks from 20 exchanges.
Vantage is much more CFD-centric. Its own website describes access to more than 1,000 CFD products, and its stock pages explicitly state that customers trade share CFDs without owning the underlying stock.
That produces a simple decision rule:
For long-term investing, eToro has the stronger product model. For leveraged speculation and active trading, Vantage has the stronger product model.
This also means that a headline comparison of "number of markets" can be misleading. A real share and a share CFD may reference the same company, but they are different financial products.
A share investor owns an interest in the underlying company when the transaction is structured as an underlying investment. A CFD trader enters a derivative contract that tracks the price movement without owning the underlying share.
Neither model is automatically better. They solve different problems.
Is eToro or Vantage cheaper?
Vantage advertises Raw ECN spreads from 0.0 pips. Its Raw ECN account charges $3 per standard lot per side, equivalent to $6 round turn, while its Standard STP account embeds the broker's charge into the spread instead of charging a separate trading commission.
eToro's published forex CFD pricing starts from 1 pip, although actual spreads vary by instrument and market conditions.
For someone trading forex frequently, that makes Vantage the more compelling structure. The headline 0.0-pip figure should not be treated as a guaranteed all-in trading cost because commission still applies and live spreads can widen, but the Raw ECN model gives active traders considerably more control over trading costs.
The calculation matters more than the marketing number.
For example, a Vantage Raw account starting at 0.0 pips still adds $6 round-trip commission per standard lot. A trader should compare the effective spread plus commission against eToro's effective spread for the same pair at the same market conditions.
eToro fees are more asset-dependent
For stocks, eToro says a $1 or $2 commission may apply when opening and closing a stock position, depending on the customer's country and the exchange. That stock commission does not apply to ETFs, CopyTrader positions or Smart Portfolios.
Other eToro costs can include:
- CFD spreads
- overnight financing on eligible leveraged CFD positions
- currency-conversion charges
- a $5 withdrawal fee from certain USD investment accounts, while eligible local-currency withdrawals can be free
eToro's fee schedule states that EUR and GBP conversion charges can apply when moving between local-currency and USD balances, so non-USD investors should not compare brokers using trading commission alone.
Vantage wins the fee comparison for frequent forex and CFD trading. eToro's economics become more attractive when the objective is investing rather than repeatedly opening leveraged positions.
eToro vs Vantage trading platforms
Vantage supports MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, its own Vantage App and direct TradingView integration. Vantage customers can connect a live account to TradingView and execute CFD trades from TradingView charts.
That gives Vantage several advantages for experienced traders:
- custom indicators
- Expert Advisors
- automated strategies
- deeper chart configuration
- MetaTrader workflows
- TradingView execution
- more control over technical-analysis setups
For traders already using MT4, MT5 or TradingView, Vantage is an easier recommendation.
eToro takes the opposite approach. Its proprietary platform is designed around a simpler investing workflow, portfolio discovery and its social-investing ecosystem.
That simplicity is an advantage for investors who do not want to run an Expert Advisor or configure a professional FX terminal.
It is a disadvantage for traders who do.
Vantage wins for platform flexibility. eToro wins for accessibility.
Is eToro or Vantage better for copy trading?
eToro's CopyTrader lets users automatically replicate the portfolios and transactions of eligible Popular Investors. The minimum allocation is currently $200 per copied investor, with a $1 minimum for individual copied positions. eToro does not charge a separate CopyTrader fee, although the normal costs of the underlying transactions still apply.
Vantage Copy Trading operates using Signal Providers and strategies inside the Vantage app. Copiers can review provider information and automatically mirror eligible positions. Signal Providers can create multiple strategies and configure factors such as a minimum copier investment and profit-sharing ratio.
There is an important difference in how the two ecosystems are positioned.
eToro has built its identity around social investing and CopyTrader. Vantage has added copy trading to a broader active CFD trading ecosystem.
That makes eToro the cleaner choice for someone saying:
"I specifically want a platform where finding and copying other investors is the core experience."
Vantage becomes more interesting when the requirement is:
"I want forex and CFD trading, MetaTrader and raw pricing, but I also want copy trading available."
One warning applies to both platforms: copying another trader does not remove market risk. Historical returns, win rates and rankings do not guarantee future performance.
Which broker is safer, eToro or Vantage?
eToro operates regulated entities in several major jurisdictions. eToro (UK) Ltd is authorised by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority, eToro (Europe) Ltd is regulated by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, and eToro AUS Capital Limited operates under an Australian Securities and Investments Commission licence. eToro Europe also obtained a MiCA permit through CySEC for crypto services in the European Economic Area.
Vantage also operates through several entities. Its Australian entity, Vantage Global Prime Pty Ltd, holds ASIC AFSL 428901, while Vantage Global Prime LLP is an FCA-authorised UK firm.
However, Vantage's global website explicitly warns customers that registering through that site can mean opening an account with Vantage Global Limited under the Vanuatu Financial Services Commission rather than the FCA-regulated UK entity.
That distinction is far more important than saying "Vantage is FCA regulated" and stopping there.
Always verify the exact contracting entity before depositing money.
Two customers using the Vantage brand in different countries may not receive the same regulatory protections, leverage limits or dispute-resolution mechanisms.
The same principle applies to eToro because products and protections also vary by jurisdiction.
For European investors, eToro's CySEC-regulated European entity gives it a particularly clear regulatory structure. For UK users comparing the FCA-regulated versions of both brokers, the gap is much smaller.
Which broker is better for different types of trader?
eToro is better for stock investors
Eligible non-leveraged long positions can represent ownership of the underlying stock, and eToro currently lists more than 6,000 shares across 20 exchanges. Fractional share investing is also available.
Vantage's share offering is built around CFDs, making it more suitable for price speculation than conventional long-term share ownership.
Vantage is better for forex trading
The Raw ECN account, MT4, MT5 and TradingView integration make Vantage substantially more purpose-built for FX trading. Raw spreads can begin at 0.0 pips, with commission charged separately.
eToro offers forex CFDs, but forex trading is only one part of a much broader social-investing proposition.
Vantage is better for algorithmic trading
Vantage provides MT4 and MT5 access, including the infrastructure commonly used for Expert Advisors and automated trading strategies.
This is not where eToro's core proposition sits.
eToro is better for beginners
A new investor can search for a stock, invest a fixed amount, build a portfolio or explore CopyTrader without learning MetaTrader terminology, lot sizes or ECN account structures first.
That does not mean beginners should blindly copy traders or trade leveraged products. It simply means eToro's interface and product design have a lower learning curve.
What are the main disadvantages of eToro and Vantage?
Neither broker wins every category.
eToro disadvantages
The main drawbacks of eToro are:
- forex costs are less attractive than a strong Raw ECN setup
- no MT4 or MT5 workflow
- less attractive for algorithmic and high-frequency-style retail trading
- currency conversion can add meaningful cost
- stock commissions vary by location and exchange
- some USD withdrawals can incur a $5 charge
- product availability changes by jurisdiction
eToro is strongest when you use it for the things it was built around. Trying to turn it into an MT5-style forex execution account makes little sense.
Vantage disadvantages
The main drawbacks of Vantage are:
- the product range is heavily CFD-focused
- stock CFDs do not provide ownership of the underlying shares
- the specific regulatory entity varies by region
- Raw ECN pricing still includes commission
- the platform can feel unnecessarily complex for passive investors
- copy trading is not as central to the brand experience as it is at eToro
Vantage is strongest when the user actually wants to trade. It is a weaker fit for someone simply looking for a conventional long-term investment account.
eToro vs Vantage: final verdict
Pick eToro if your priorities are stocks, diversified investing, fractional shares, social investing, CopyTrader and ease of use.
Pick Vantage if your priorities are forex, leveraged CFDs, low raw spreads, MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, TradingView or automated strategies.
The deciding question is therefore not "Which broker has the highest rating?"
It is:
Do you primarily want to invest, or do you primarily want to trade?
If you want to invest, eToro is the stronger fit.
If you want to actively trade forex and CFDs, Vantage is the stronger fit.
Before opening either account, confirm the broker entity serving your country and review the live fee schedule for the instruments you intend to trade. Broker pricing and regulatory protections are jurisdiction-specific, and CFDs involve a high risk of loss when leverage is used.
Frequently asked questions about eToro vs Vantage
Is Vantage better than eToro?
Is eToro cheaper than Vantage?
eToro is not generally cheaper for active forex trading. Vantage Raw ECN spreads can start from 0.0 pips plus a $3-per-side commission per standard lot, while eToro's forex CFD spreads start from 1 pip. The cheaper broker for stocks and other investments depends on the instrument, country, commission structure and currency-conversion costs.
Does Vantage have copy trading like eToro?
Yes. Vantage has an integrated copy-trading system where users can follow Signal Providers and strategies. eToro offers CopyTrader, where users can automatically copy eligible Popular Investors. eToro's product is more central to its overall platform, while Vantage combines copy trading with its forex and CFD trading ecosystem.
Can I buy real stocks with eToro and Vantage?
Eligible non-leveraged long stock positions on eToro can represent the underlying shares. Vantage's stock offering is primarily provided through share CFDs, so the trader does not own the underlying shares.
Is eToro or Vantage better for forex?
Vantage is better for most dedicated forex traders. Its Raw ECN account, MetaTrader support, TradingView integration and commission-plus-raw-spread structure are better aligned with active FX trading. eToro is more suitable when forex is only one part of a broader investing portfolio.
