Which is the better fit?
Consider eToro
eToro is worth considering if CopyTrader, ease of use and having several asset classes under one roof matter more to you than getting the absolute lowest possible cost for every individual trade.
Consider Moomoo
Moomoo is strongest for self-directed traders who want better market data and analysis than most commission-free apps provide without paying for a professional terminal.
Moomoo is the better choice for active traders, while eToro is better for social investing, copy trading and investors who want a simpler platform. Moomoo wins on charting, Level 2 market data, margin trading and advanced trading tools. eToro wins on CopyTrader, ease of use and its broader social-investing ecosystem.
For most experienced investors choosing specifically between eToro and moomoo, we would pick moomoo. Its combination of low U.S. trading costs, a 6.8% published U.S. stock margin rate, sophisticated charts and deeper market data gives active investors more control.
Choose eToro instead if copying other investors is a core reason you are opening an account. eToro's CopyTrader product automatically replicates another investor's positions in proportion to the amount you allocate, with a $200 minimum amount required to copy a trader.
Fees, products and features vary by country. The pricing comparisons below use U.S. retail accounts where a direct comparison is possible, so investors outside the United States should check the relevant regional fee schedule before opening an account.

Why is moomoo better for active traders?
Moomoo is better than eToro for active trading because its platform provides substantially deeper trading and analysis tools. The moomoo platform offers more than 100 technical indicators, 38 or more drawing tools, advanced options functionality and access to Level 2 market data.
That matters more than cosmetic differences between the apps. An investor trading several times a week may care about market depth, technical setups, order flow, margin costs and options tools far more than social feeds or the ability to copy another investor.
Moomoo's Level 2 offering can show up to 60 levels of bid and ask prices. The platform says qualifying Moomoo Financial Inc. accounts can receive free Level 2 data, although the exact order books and eligibility conditions can vary.
Moomoo also publishes a 6.8% annual margin rate for long positions in U.S. stocks, subject to change. A trader borrowing $10,000 for 30 days at a constant 6.8% rate would incur approximately $55.89 in margin interest, calculated as $10,000 × 6.8% × 30 ÷ 365, before any other applicable costs.
This is one of the clearest differences in the eToro vs moomoo comparison. If leverage, market depth or technical analysis are important to your strategy, moomoo is the stronger platform.
Why is eToro better for copy trading and social investing?
eToro is better than moomoo for copy trading because CopyTrader is built directly into the platform and is one of eToro's core products. Investors can select another eToro user, review that investor's portfolio and historical activity, allocate money to them, and automatically replicate their positions proportionally.
The minimum amount required to copy an investor is currently $200, and eToro does not charge an additional CopyTrader fee. Normal trading fees can still apply to the underlying assets.
This creates a genuinely different use case from moomoo.
Moomoo is designed primarily around helping you analyse and execute your own trades. eToro is designed partly around helping you discover what other investors are doing and act on that information.
Copy trading does not remove investment risk. A trader with a strong historical record can still lose money, and copying another investor does not guarantee the same execution price or future returns.
If you want to make every investment decision yourself, moomoo's additional analysis tools are more useful. If you specifically want social trading or automated portfolio copying, eToro is the clear winner.
Is eToro or moomoo cheaper?
Neither broker is universally cheaper, but moomoo currently has the stronger pricing for U.S. crypto and margin trading, while ordinary U.S. stock and ETF trading is effectively a draw on headline commissions.
Both brokers advertise $0 commissions on U.S. stocks for eligible U.S. customers. Moomoo can still pass through regulatory charges, while eToro states that it pays regulatory transaction fees on behalf of customers when they sell stocks.
Both also offer zero contract fees on qualifying U.S. equity options, although regulatory charges still apply. Moomoo charges $0.50 per index options contract under its current U.S. pricing.
Crypto produces a clearer difference. Moomoo currently states that U.S. crypto trading has a 0.49% transaction fee, while eToro charges 1% when buying and 1% when selling a cryptoasset.
That means a hypothetical $5,000 crypto purchase would incur approximately $24.50 under a 0.49% transaction fee versus $50 under a 1% transaction fee, before considering the later sale, spreads, price movement or other applicable charges.
Withdrawals also differ. eToro currently charges $0 for U.S. withdrawals but imposes a $30 minimum withdrawal amount. Moomoo offers free ACH withdrawals, while outgoing U.S. wires are listed at $20 and international outgoing wires at $25, excluding possible bank charges.
The important point is that "commission-free" does not mean "cost-free." Regulatory fees, spreads, margin interest, currency conversion, contract fees and withdrawal methods can matter more than the advertised stock commission.
Which broker offers more investments?
At the time of this comparison, eToro's U.S. markets page listed more than 5,000 stocks, nearly 500 ETFs and more than 100 cryptoassets. Exact availability varies by account and location.
Moomoo's U.S. fee schedule covers U.S. stocks, ETFs, stock and ETF options, index options, Hong Kong stocks, China A-shares and prediction markets. Moomoo also advertises more than 50 cryptocurrencies in the U.S.
For crypto specifically, the trade-off is interesting. eToro currently offers the broader listed crypto selection, but moomoo charges the lower headline U.S. crypto transaction fee. Investors therefore need to distinguish between asset availability and trading cost rather than treating "best for crypto" as one question.
Product availability is also heavily jurisdiction-dependent. For example, products available through an eToro European entity may not be offered to eToro USA customers, while some moomoo markets and products differ between Moomoo Financial Inc., Moomoo Singapore and other regional entities.
Which platform has better trading tools?
Moomoo offers more than 100 technical indicators, dozens of drawing tools, advanced options features, market-depth data, stock screening, alerts and paper trading. The platform also integrates with TradingView for eligible customers.
Its paper-trading environment provides virtual funds alongside real-time quotes and more than 100 tools. That makes moomoo particularly useful for testing an options or technical trading process before committing real capital.
eToro takes a different approach. Its biggest differentiator is not another indicator or chart type. It is the relationship between investing and its user network.
eToro provides a social feed, investor profiles, CopyTrader and a $100,000 virtual portfolio. Its options product has also expanded its social features so users can follow options traders and review or duplicate selected trades.
For a chart-heavy trader, moomoo wins. For someone who values investor discovery and social context more than terminal-style analysis, eToro wins.
Is eToro or moomoo better for beginners?
A new investor can buy stocks or ETFs, practise with virtual money, explore the eToro Academy and use social-investing features without immediately needing to understand Level 2 order books, complex chart layouts or margin mechanics.
That does not make moomoo unsuitable for beginners. Moomoo provides extensive educational content and one of the stronger paper-trading environments available from a retail broker.
The difference is the learning curve. Moomoo gives an investor more controls and more data. eToro removes more complexity.
For investors who want to learn active trading, moomoo may actually be the better starting point because the tools they will eventually need are already available. For investors who simply want to start buying assets through an accessible interface, eToro is easier to recommend.
Are eToro and moomoo safe?
eToro USA Securities Inc. is registered with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and is a member of FINRA and SIPC. Moomoo Financial Inc. is also an SEC-registered broker-dealer and a member of FINRA and SIPC.
SIPC protection relates to qualifying securities and cash held at a failed SIPC-member brokerage. It does not insure investors against a stock, ETF or option losing market value.
Crypto is different. eToro's U.S. crypto services are provided through separate entities that are not SEC-registered broker-dealers or SIPC members. Moomoo Crypto Inc. is likewise not a broker-dealer, and cryptocurrency assets held with it are not SIPC or FDIC protected.
The regulatory comparison therefore produces no meaningful winner for ordinary U.S. securities accounts. Both platforms use regulated brokerage entities, while crypto carries a different protection structure.
eToro vs moomoo: which should you choose?
Moomoo is the stronger choice if your priorities include technical charting, options analysis, Level 2 data, margin trading, lower U.S. crypto transaction fees and a more sophisticated paper-trading environment.
eToro is the stronger choice if your priorities include CopyTrader, following other investors, a simpler interface, a broad crypto selection and an investing experience built around social discovery.
For a passive investor who only buys a few U.S. stocks or ETFs each year, the gap is much smaller. Both currently offer zero-commission U.S. stock trading to eligible U.S. customers, so usability, available account types and the investments you actually need may matter more than headline trading fees.
For a frequent trader, the difference becomes much clearer. Our overall eToro vs moomoo verdict is moomoo for active trading and eToro for social investing. If forced to pick one platform overall for a self-directed investor, moomoo gets the win.
Common questions about eToro and moomoo
Is moomoo better than eToro?
Moomoo is better than eToro for active traders because it offers deeper charting, Level 2 market data, margin trading and more advanced analytical tools. eToro is better for investors who specifically want social investing and CopyTrader.
Is eToro cheaper than moomoo?
Not overall. Both currently offer $0 U.S. stock commissions for eligible U.S. users, but their other costs differ. Moomoo currently has a 0.49% U.S. crypto transaction fee compared with eToro's 1% crypto fee, while eToro says it absorbs applicable regulatory transaction fees on ordinary U.S. stock sales.
Does moomoo have copy trading like eToro?
Moomoo does not offer a direct equivalent to eToro's CopyTrader product. Moomoo has community, education and trading-analysis features, but eToro's automated proportional copying of another investor's portfolio is a distinct product and remains one of the clearest reasons to choose eToro.
Is moomoo good for day trading?
Moomoo is better suited to active and short-term trading than eToro because it provides advanced charting, Level 2 market data, margin functionality and more trading-oriented research tools. Whether day trading is appropriate depends on the investor's experience, capital and risk tolerance, but on platform functionality alone, moomoo is the stronger of these two brokers.
