Which is the better fit?

Consider eToro

eToro is worth considering if CopyTrader, ease of use and having several asset classes under one roof matter more to you than getting the absolute lowest possible cost for every individual trade.

Consider Moneta Markets

Moneta Markets is a competitive forex and CFD broker for traders who value low ECN pricing, MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 and high leverage, but the legal entity behind your account matters. As of September 2026, Moneta Markets advertises a $50 minimum deposit, spreads from 0.0 pips on ECN accounts, commissions from $3 per lot per side and access to more than 1,000 trading instruments.

eToro is the better overall choice for most investors, while Moneta Markets is better for active forex and CFD traders who prioritise low spreads, MetaTrader and high leverage.

Choose eToro if you want a broader investing platform, stronger social and copy-trading features, access to underlying stocks and ETFs where available, and a broker with a wider regulatory footprint.

Choose Moneta Markets if your priority is forex or CFD trading through MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5, raw-spread ECN pricing, scalping, Expert Advisors or higher leverage.

Overall winner: eToro. Its combination of regulatory coverage, multi-asset investing, public-company transparency and established CopyTrader ecosystem makes it the stronger all-round platform. Moneta Markets is the more specialised choice and can be materially better for a serious forex trader.

Moneta Markets currently lists a $50 minimum deposit for its Standard STP and Prime ECN accounts, spreads from 1.2 pips on Standard STP and from 0.0 pips on Prime ECN. eToro's first-deposit requirement varies considerably by country, currently ranging from $10 to $10,000 according to eToro.

Which is better, eToro or Moneta Markets?

That distinction matters because these brokers are not really trying to solve exactly the same problem.

eToro combines investing, trading and social investing inside one proprietary ecosystem. Depending on the investor's country and the instrument, eToro can provide exposure to underlying stocks, ETFs and cryptoassets as well as CFDs. Its CopyTrader product is central to the platform rather than an additional trading tool.

Moneta Markets is much closer to a traditional forex and CFD broker. Its proposition revolves around MT4, MT5, PRO Trader, ECN execution, tight forex spreads and leverage. Moneta Markets' own account comparison specifically identifies its Prime ECN account as suitable for scalpers and Expert Advisor users.

So the correct answer is not simply "Broker A scored 4.7 and Broker B scored 4.5."

It is:

Investing and social trading: eToro.

Active forex and CFD trading: Moneta Markets.

Is eToro or Moneta Markets safer?

eToro operates through regulated entities including eToro (UK) Ltd, which is authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority, eToro (Europe) Ltd under Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission regulation, and eToro AUS Capital Limited under the Australian Securities and Investments Commission. eToro also operates a Seychelles-regulated entity.

eToro Group Ltd has also traded publicly on Nasdaq under ticker ETOR since May 2025. In its second-quarter 2026 results, eToro reported 4.28 million funded accounts and $19.2 billion in assets under administration. Public listing does not eliminate investment or counterparty risk, but it does add another layer of financial reporting and corporate disclosure.

Moneta Markets operates through several entities. Moneta Markets South Africa (Pty) Ltd is regulated by South Africa's Financial Sector Conduct Authority under FSP 47490. Moneta Markets Trading Limited is regulated by the Financial Services Commission of Mauritius. Moneta Markets also states that Moneta Markets Capital Ltd is FCA-authorised to provide services to UK clients.

The important detail is that being a Moneta Markets customer does not automatically mean you are contracting with the FCA-regulated UK company. Moneta Markets explicitly states that its other entities are not FCA-authorised.

Check the legal entity shown during account registration, not merely the regulator logos displayed across the wider group.

Verdict on safety and regulation: eToro.

Which has lower fees, eToro or Moneta Markets?

Moneta Markets currently offers three account configurations:

  • Standard STP: spreads from 1.2 pips, no trading commission and a $50 minimum deposit.
  • Prime ECN: spreads from 0.0 pips, commission of $3 per lot per side and a $50 minimum deposit.
  • Ultra ECN: spreads from 0.0 pips, commission of $1 per lot per side and a $20,000 minimum deposit.

Moneta Markets' published spread data currently gives EUR/USD an average ECN spread of 0.26 pips and an average STP spread of 1.36 pips. Actual spreads are variable and can widen with market conditions.

That gives active traders something useful to optimise. A trader doing significant forex volume can choose raw spreads plus a known commission rather than accepting a simpler bundled spread.

eToro's pricing works differently. Its current CFD pricing page lists EUR/USD at 0.005% per trade rather than presenting the cost through a traditional ECN account structure. eToro also charges different fees across different asset classes.

For example, eToro currently states that:

  • ETF investing is commission-free where the underlying product is available.
  • Stock transactions may carry a $1 or $2 commission depending on the user's country and exchange.
  • Standard crypto trading for Bronze, Silver and Gold members carries a 1% fee per position.
  • Withdrawals from a USD investment account can incur a $5 fee.
  • Leveraged and short CFD positions may incur overnight financing charges.

The precise cost therefore depends heavily on what you trade and where your account is registered.

Forex trading cost winner: Moneta Markets.

Long-term ETF investing cost comparison: much closer, and potentially favourable to eToro depending on jurisdiction.

Which trading platform is better?

eToro centres its experience around its own web and mobile platform. This reduces complexity and works particularly well for users who want to invest, follow markets and copy other investors without configuring a professional forex terminal.

The downside is obvious for MetaTrader users. eToro does not support MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5.

Moneta Markets supports:

  • MetaTrader 4
  • MetaTrader 5
  • PRO Trader
  • AppTrader
  • CopyTrader

Prime ECN accounts are explicitly positioned for scalpers and Expert Advisor users, making Moneta Markets the more natural choice for algorithmic strategies and traders already operating inside the MetaTrader ecosystem.

Platform winner for beginners: eToro.

Platform winner for experienced forex traders: Moneta Markets.

Which is better for copy trading?

CopyTrader is one of eToro's defining products. Users can inspect investor profiles and performance, choose a trader and automatically replicate that investor's portfolio activity.

eToro currently allows users to copy up to 100 investors and states that the minimum allocation to an individual copied trader is $200. eToro does not charge an additional CopyTrader management fee, although normal trading and transaction costs still apply to the underlying positions.

Moneta Markets also has a legitimate copy-trading proposition. Its CopyTrader application advertises access to more than 6,000 traders and allows users to automatically reproduce their trades.

But social investing is built much deeper into eToro's product. Investor profiles, feeds, CopyTrader and the Popular Investor programme form one connected ecosystem.

Copy-trading winner: eToro.

Copying another person's trades does not make the strategy lower risk. It simply automates the execution of somebody else's decisions.

Which is better for forex trading?

The difference comes down to execution model and tooling.

Moneta Markets offers raw-spread ECN accounts, MT4 and MT5, 0.01-lot minimum trade sizes, Expert Advisor compatibility, hedging and leverage of up to 1000:1 on eligible accounts.

eToro offers forex through its broader multi-asset trading environment, but it does not provide the same MT4/MT5 plus ECN workflow.

A casual investor who occasionally trades EUR/USD may prefer eToro because everything lives inside one account.

A trader running an EA across multiple currency pairs, scalping intraday or executing enough volume for spread differences to matter should prefer Moneta Markets.

Forex winner: Moneta Markets.

Which is better for stocks and ETFs?

This is one of the biggest differences between eToro and Moneta Markets.

eToro provides investment access to underlying stocks and ETFs in eligible jurisdictions, alongside CFD products. Leveraged positions, short positions and some products or jurisdictions can still result in the position being executed as a CFD, so users should check the trade ticket before placing an order.

Moneta Markets' offering is primarily built around leveraged derivative products. Its global risk disclosures explain that customers trading derivatives do not own or have rights to the underlying assets.

If the objective is buying shares or ETFs and holding them as investments, I would choose eToro between these two.

If the objective is actively trading share-price movements through CFDs, Moneta Markets becomes much more competitive.

Stocks and ETF investing winner: eToro.

Which broker offers more leverage?

Its Standard STP and Prime ECN account pages currently advertise leverage of up to 1000:1, while the Ultra ECN account advertises up to 500:1.

That can reduce the capital required to control a position, but it does not make the trade cheaper or better. It increases the sensitivity of the account to relatively small price movements.

eToro's leverage limits vary with the financial product, trader classification and regulatory jurisdiction.

For most retail traders, "higher maximum leverage" should not automatically be treated as a benefit. It is primarily useful to experienced traders who deliberately require it and understand the liquidation and drawdown implications.

Leverage winner: Moneta Markets.

eToro or Moneta Markets for beginners?

The reason is not that eToro makes trading safe. It does not.

The advantage is product simplicity.

A new investor gets one primary interface, stocks and ETFs where available, crypto and CFD markets depending on jurisdiction, a virtual portfolio and a social-investing ecosystem. Every new eToro account currently includes a $100,000 virtual portfolio for practice.

Moneta Markets can still work for beginners, particularly through its commission-free Standard STP account. But MT4, MT5, raw spreads, leverage and ECN account selection are more useful when the trader already knows why those features matter.

Beginner winner: eToro.

Who should choose eToro?

Choose eToro if your main objective is investing rather than specialist forex execution.

eToro makes the most sense for investors who want one platform for multiple asset classes, people buying stocks or ETFs in eligible markets, beginners who value a simpler interface, and users specifically interested in social investing and CopyTrader.

Its wider regulatory footprint and status as a Nasdaq-listed company also make eToro the stronger choice where corporate transparency is an important selection criterion.

Who should choose Moneta Markets?

Choose Moneta Markets if trading conditions matter more to you than the broader investing ecosystem.

Moneta Markets is particularly well suited to active forex traders, MT4 and MT5 users, scalpers, Expert Advisor users and traders who deliberately want ECN pricing or access to higher leverage.

The Prime ECN account is arguably the sweet spot: $50 minimum deposit, spreads from 0.0 pips and a $6 round-turn commission per standard lot.

The trade-off is that jurisdiction matters considerably. The Moneta Markets entity available to one trader may not be the entity available to another.

eToro vs Moneta Markets: final verdict

If I had to recommend one broker without knowing anything else about the user, I would choose eToro. It covers more use cases, has a stronger social-investing ecosystem, allows underlying asset investing in eligible jurisdictions, operates through a broader regulatory network and now has the additional disclosure requirements of a Nasdaq-listed company.

If the question changes from "Which is the better broker?" to "Which is the better forex trading broker?", the answer flips.

For forex, scalping, Expert Advisors, MetaTrader and raw-spread ECN execution, Moneta Markets is the better choice.
