Which is the better fit?

Consider eToro

eToro is worth considering if CopyTrader, ease of use and having several asset classes under one roof matter more to you than getting the absolute lowest possible cost for every individual trade.

Consider Libertex

Libertex deserves a shortlist if you already understand CFD trading and value broad market access, MT4/MT5 support and a relatively simple proprietary platform. If you are learning to trade from scratch, want copy trading under the European regulated entity, or primarily want long-term passive investing, I would compare other platforms before opening an account.

eToro is the better overall choice than Libertex for most investors in 2026. eToro wins on market range, copy trading, portfolio features and suitability for people who want to invest as well as trade. Libertex is the better choice for a narrower group: active CFD and forex traders who specifically want MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5, automated trading and a more trading-focused platform.

The distinction matters because eToro and Libertex are not simply two versions of the same broker. eToro is built as a broad multi-asset investing and social trading platform. Libertex combines a CFD trading service with a separate Libertex Invest account for buying real shares.

Our verdict: choose eToro if you want the stronger all-round investment platform. Choose Libertex if MT4/MT5, algorithmic trading or active CFD trading are your priorities.

This comparison is based primarily on the European services offered by eToro Europe Ltd and Libertex operator Indication Investments Ltd as of September 2026. Products, fees and regulatory entities can differ by country.

eToro currently provides access to thousands of stocks and ETFs alongside currencies, commodities, indices and cryptoassets. Its current markets page lists roughly 9,600 stocks, more than 1,200 ETFs, 69 currencies, 54 indices, 78 commodities and around 210 cryptoassets, although availability varies by jurisdiction.

Libertex's proprietary trading platform advertises access to more than 1,000 tradable instruments, while MT4 and MT5 support CFDs across forex, stocks, indices, commodities, cryptocurrencies, ETFs and metals.

Which is better, eToro or Libertex?

An eToro user can buy eligible underlying stocks and ETFs, trade CFDs, buy supported cryptoassets, use Smart Portfolios and automatically copy other investors with CopyTrader. The platform therefore works for someone building a long-term portfolio as well as someone taking shorter-term positions.

Libertex is more specialised. Its CFD service gives traders access to the proprietary Libertex platform plus MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5. A separate Libertex Invest account allows users to own real shares without trading them as CFDs.

That makes the decision fairly simple:

  • Choose eToro for investing, ETFs, crypto ownership, copy trading, social features and a broader all-in-one platform.
  • Choose Libertex for MetaTrader, automated strategies, Expert Advisors, hedging and active CFD or forex trading.

Libertex is not necessarily the worse broker. It is simply optimised for a different type of customer.

eToro vs Libertex fees: which is cheaper?

This is an area where many broker comparisons get sloppy. Comparing a single forex spread and declaring one broker "cheaper" ignores commissions, overnight financing, currency conversion, withdrawal costs and whether the position is an underlying investment or a CFD.

eToro fees

eToro's current fee schedule states:

  • account opening: free
  • management fee: free
  • inactivity fee: free
  • eligible local-currency withdrawals: free
  • USD-account withdrawal: $5
  • ETFs: zero commission
  • eligible stock trades: a $1 or $2 commission may apply depending on the user's country and exchange
  • manual crypto trading: generally 1% for Bronze, Silver and Gold members, with lower rates available at certain higher Club tiers and trading volumes
  • stock and ETF CFDs: 0.15% per trade
  • crypto CFDs: 1% per trade
  • overnight financing can apply to CFD positions

The most notable change for anyone reading older eToro comparisons is the inactivity fee. eToro's September 2026 fee schedule currently shows the inactivity fee as free, so older references to a $10 monthly eToro inactivity charge should not be treated as current.

Libertex fees

Libertex uses a different cost structure for its CFD and Invest accounts.

For CFD trading, Libertex currently states that commissions start from 0%, with variable spreads and overnight swap charges. A currency-related margin adjustment of up to 0.3% can apply on the proprietary Libertex platform in specified circumstances.

Libertex also charges a €10 monthly inactivity fee after 180 calendar days without trading, open positions, deposits or withdrawals. Withdrawal charges depend on the method: PayPal is currently free, card withdrawals cost €1, Skrill and Neteller cost 1%, and SEPA or international bank transfers cost 0.5% with stated minimum and maximum charges.

Libertex Invest charges no commission for share investing, although the market bid/ask spread still applies.

Is eToro or Libertex cheaper for long-term investing?

eToro currently charges zero commission on ETF trades, while stock commissions of $1 or $2 can apply depending on market and country. There is no current inactivity fee.

Libertex Invest is attractive if you specifically want individual shares because it advertises 0% commission on real-stock investing. However, Libertex charges its €10 monthly inactivity fee after 180 days of qualifying inactivity.

The bigger difference is product breadth. A long-term investor building a portfolio of shares, ETFs and other assets will generally have more options at eToro.

Is eToro or Libertex cheaper for CFD trading?

Libertex uses instrument-specific variable spreads and commissions starting from 0%. eToro also has asset-specific CFD pricing, including percentage charges for stock, ETF and crypto CFDs plus instrument-specific pricing for currencies, commodities and indices.

A trader placing 100 EUR/USD transactions per month has a completely different cost profile from an investor buying an ETF four times a year. The useful comparison is therefore total annual trading cost for your actual strategy, not the lowest advertised spread on either homepage.

eToro vs Libertex for stocks and ETFs

eToro's current European-facing markets catalogue lists thousands of shares and more than 1,200 ETFs. Eligible non-leveraged long positions can represent investments in the underlying asset, although eToro explicitly notes that some positions can be executed as CFDs because of product or jurisdictional restrictions. Investors should check the trade ticket before confirming an order.

Libertex Invest also allows European users to buy and own real stocks. Libertex states that these investments carry 0% broker commission, with market spreads applying.

The weakness is breadth. Libertex Invest is centred on individual shares, whereas eToro is much better suited to somebody who wants to combine individual equities with a substantial ETF selection in one portfolio.

Winner for stocks and ETFs: eToro.

eToro vs Libertex for forex and CFD trading

The reason is the platform stack rather than a marketing claim about spreads.

Libertex supports:

  • Libertex Web and mobile
  • MetaTrader 4
  • MetaTrader 5
  • automated trading through MetaTrader
  • hedging
  • trading signals and Expert Advisor functionality
  • CFD markets including forex, stocks, indices, commodities, cryptoassets, ETFs and metals

Libertex's European MT4 and MT5 accounts offer retail leverage up to 1:30, subject to the instrument and applicable regulation.

eToro uses its own web and mobile ecosystem rather than MT4 or MT5. Its platform is deliberately simpler and more integrated, which is useful for mainstream investors but less appealing if your trading workflow depends on MetaTrader indicators, Expert Advisors or automated strategies.

Winner for MetaTrader, forex automation and active CFD trading: Libertex.

eToro vs Libertex for copy trading

eToro CopyTrader allows users to select an eligible Popular Investor and automatically replicate that investor's portfolio activity proportionally.

The minimum allocation to copy one investor is currently $200. eToro states that there is no additional CopyTrader fee, although the normal spreads and transaction charges associated with the underlying positions still apply.

MetaTrader users at Libertex can access trading signals and automated trading functionality, but that is not the same product as eToro's integrated social network and CopyTrader system.

For somebody searching specifically for a broker where they can browse investors, assess their portfolios and automatically copy their activity, eToro is the obvious choice.

Winner for copy trading: eToro.

Copy trading does not remove investment risk. A copied investor can lose money, historical returns do not guarantee future performance, and automatically replicating another person's positions is not the same thing as receiving personalised financial advice.

eToro vs Libertex for cryptocurrency

eToro supports direct cryptoasset trading in eligible jurisdictions as part of its broader investment platform. Its European entity also holds authorisation under the EU Markets in Crypto-Assets framework, with CySEC listing eToro Europe Ltd within its MiCAR crypto-asset services register.

eToro's standard manual crypto trading fee is currently 1% for Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers, with lower rates available for some higher Club tiers and monthly volume bands. Transfers from the eToro investment platform to the eToro Money crypto wallet currently carry a 2% transfer fee, subject to the applicable limits and conditions.

Libertex offers cryptocurrency CFDs within its CFD trading environment. A crypto CFD gives exposure to price movements without ownership of the underlying cryptocurrency.

That distinction is more important than the raw fee comparison. If you want to own eligible cryptoassets and potentially transfer supported assets, eToro provides the more appropriate product. If you only want leveraged or short-term exposure to cryptocurrency prices, a crypto CFD platform such as Libertex may fit the strategy.

Winner for broader cryptocurrency investing: eToro.

Which has the better trading platform?

eToro's web and mobile experience combines investing, watchlists, charts, social feeds, CopyTrader and portfolio management inside one proprietary ecosystem. The interface is designed around making multiple asset classes accessible without requiring traditional professional trading software.

Libertex offers its own web and mobile platform but also gives traders access to MT4 and MT5.

The winner therefore depends on workflow:

User Better platform
Beginner investor eToro
Buy-and-hold investor eToro
Copy trader eToro
Investor wanting stocks plus ETFs plus crypto eToro
MT4 trader Libertex
MT5 trader Libertex
Expert Advisor user Libertex
Algorithmic forex trader Libertex
Technical CFD trader wanting MetaTrader Libertex

There is no reason to pretend those audiences want the same product.

Is eToro safer than Libertex?

This distinction gets mangled surprisingly often in broker comparisons.

eToro Europe Ltd is authorised by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission under licence 109/10. CySEC's current register confirms that licence.

Libertex is a trading platform operated in the EEA by Indication Investments Ltd, which is authorised by CySEC under licence 164/12. CySEC's register also confirms that licence and lists Libertex.com as an approved domain.

eToro additionally operates regulated entities in jurisdictions including the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States and other markets.

That broader footprint is a legitimate positive for the eToro group, but investor protection is primarily determined by the legal entity your account is opened with. An EU customer of eToro Europe should not assume they receive FCA or US investor protection merely because another eToro subsidiary holds those licences.

For that reason, regulation should be compared at account-entity level rather than by counting the number of regulator logos on each broker's website.

How much money do you need to start?

eToro states that its private-account minimum first deposit currently ranges from $10 to $10,000 depending on region and regulation. Subsequent deposits generally have a separate minimum, and local rules can change the amounts available to a particular customer.

Libertex currently lists:

  • €100 minimum first deposit
  • €20 minimum trade volume on the proprietary Libertex CFD platform
  • 0.01 lot minimum volume on MetaTrader
  • one share as the minimum investment on Libertex Invest

Do not choose between eToro and Libertex based on an old comparison page claiming that eToro's universal minimum is $50. eToro explicitly makes the first-deposit threshold jurisdiction-dependent.

Does eToro or Libertex offer a demo account?

Both platforms provide ways to practise without risking real capital.

eToro includes a virtual portfolio funded with $100,000 in virtual money, and users can test features such as CopyTrader in demo mode.

Libertex provides demo functionality for trading accounts and its MetaTrader environment. Libertex's separate Invest account is designed for real-stock investing rather than the same demo workflow.

For beginners who specifically want to practise copy trading and navigate the same broad ecosystem they would use with real money, eToro's virtual portfolio is the cleaner proposition.

eToro pros and cons

  • CopyTrader social and copy trading system
  • Smart Portfolios and other portfolio products
  • No current inactivity fee
  • Zero commission on ETF transactions
  • Suitable for both investors and traders
  • Wider global regulatory footprint

eToro disadvantages

  • No MetaTrader 4 or MetaTrader 5
  • Not the natural choice for Expert Advisor or MetaTrader-based algorithmic trading
  • Stock commissions can apply depending on jurisdiction and exchange
  • Standard manual cryptocurrency fees can be relatively expensive for frequent crypto trading
  • USD withdrawals can carry a $5 fee
  • Currency conversion charges can matter for investors funding or trading in different currencies

Libertex pros and cons

Libertex advantages

  • MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5
  • Automated trading and Expert Advisor support
  • Stronger fit for dedicated forex and CFD traders
  • Proprietary Libertex trading platform also available
  • Libertex Invest allows ownership of real shares
  • 0% broker commission on Libertex Invest share purchases
  • Hedging available within the MetaTrader trading environment
  • More than 1,000 instruments advertised on its proprietary trading platform

Libertex disadvantages

  • Less comprehensive overall investment range than eToro
  • No equivalent to eToro CopyTrader
  • Libertex Invest is primarily focused on shares rather than eToro's broader stock-and-ETF proposition
  • €10 monthly inactivity fee after 180 days of qualifying inactivity
  • Withdrawal fees apply to several payment methods
  • CFD-heavy product proposition means users need to understand leverage, swaps and derivative risk

Who should choose eToro?

eToro is particularly well suited to:

  • beginners comparing their first investment platforms
  • long-term investors building diversified portfolios
  • people who want a large choice of stocks and ETFs
  • investors interested in CopyTrader
  • users who value social investment features
  • investors who want direct cryptocurrency exposure where available
  • people who do not need MT4, MT5 or Expert Advisors

For those users, eToro's broader ecosystem outweighs the specialist trading tools Libertex provides.

Who should choose Libertex?

Libertex makes more sense for:

  • active forex traders
  • MT4 users
  • MT5 users
  • traders using Expert Advisors
  • algorithmic traders
  • CFD traders who want hedging
  • technically experienced traders who are less interested in social features

Libertex Invest also makes the platform relevant to buy-and-hold equity investors, but that is not where Libertex has its clearest advantage over eToro.

eToro vs Libertex: final verdict

For most people searching eToro vs Libertex, eToro is the better choice because it provides a broader investment universe, substantial stock and ETF access, direct cryptoasset investing where permitted, CopyTrader and a platform that works for both long-term investing and shorter-term trading.

Libertex becomes the better choice when the requirement changes from "which is the best all-round platform?" to "which platform gives me MT4, MT5 and a trading environment built around forex and CFDs?"

The simplest decision rule is:

Pick eToro for investing and copy trading. Pick Libertex for MetaTrader and active CFD trading.

Before opening either account, confirm the legal entity serving your country, the current fee schedule for the instruments you intend to trade and whether a position represents ownership of an underlying asset or a CFD.

CFDs are leveraged products and carry a high risk of rapid losses. Libertex currently reports that 83% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with its European provider. Current eToro risk disclosures also state that a substantial proportion of retail CFD accounts lose money, with the precise percentage shown varying across the entity and communication.
