Which is the better fit?
Consider AMP Futures
AMP Futures is a strong futures broker for active, self-directed traders who want very low day-trading margins, competitive trading costs and unusually broad platform choice. I would recommend AMP Futures for experienced futures day traders and scalpers, particularly users of Quantower, TradingView or Sierra Chart. I would not make it my first choice for a complete beginner who wants a polished all-in-one brokerage experience or extensive hand-holding.
Consider Tradovate
Tradovate is a legitimate, regulated futures broker with competitive commissions, low day-trading margins and one of the more convenient browser-based futures platforms. However, we would not make Tradovate the automatic first choice for every active futures trader in 2026. Recent complaints about outages, login problems, platform freezing and order management are serious enough that execution reliability needs to be part of the decision, not an afterthought.
AMP Futures is the better choice for most experienced, self-directed futures traders who prioritise low day-trading margins, broad platform choice and flexibility over their data feed. Tradovate is better for traders who want a modern integrated trading platform, browser and mobile access, NinjaTrader compatibility and no stated funding minimum.
AMP currently requires a $100 minimum deposit and advertises day-trading margins of $40 for Micro E-mini S&P 500 futures (MES) and $400 for E-mini S&P 500 futures (ES). AMP also supports more than 50 trading platforms and four primary data-feed choices: CQG, Rithmic, Trading Technologies and Teton.
Tradovate currently advertises no funding minimum, $50 Micro futures day margins and $500 standard futures day margins. Its pricing starts at $0.39 per side for Micro futures and $1.29 per side for standard contracts on the commission-only Free plan, with lower rates available through its $99 monthly and $1,499 Lifetime plans.
Our overall pick is AMP Futures if you already know how you want to trade. Choose Tradovate instead if you want the brokerage, trading platform, mobile apps and cloud-based infrastructure packaged into one simpler ecosystem.

What is the main difference between AMP Futures and Tradovate?
That is the distinction that actually matters.
AMP Global Clearing, LLC is a CFTC-regulated Futures Commission Merchant and a clearing member of CME, CBOT, COMEX and NYMEX. AMP describes itself as technology-neutral and supports more than 50 trading platforms across CQG, Rithmic, Trading Technologies and Teton connectivity.
Tradovate operates inside NinjaTrader Group. Current Tradovate disclosures state that NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC provides brokerage services and is registered with the CFTC as a Futures Commission Merchant and with the NFA under NFA ID 0309379. Tradovate users can also access NinjaTrader using their Tradovate credentials.
That produces two different products.
AMP Futures lets you choose the trading technology and build the brokerage setup around it.
Tradovate gives you a brokerage account and a tightly integrated trading platform ecosystem from the same group.
If you already know you want Sierra Chart with Teton, Quantower with CQG or another specific platform and feed combination, AMP is usually the more natural fit.
If you want to open an account, log into a modern browser-based platform and start trading without assembling a separate technology stack, Tradovate is more attractive.
Is AMP Futures or Tradovate cheaper?
AMP does not advertise one commission rate that applies to every trader. Its Exact Cost Calculator combines brokerage commission, exchange fees, NFA fees, platform costs and routing charges for the selected contract and technology setup. AMP also currently advertises that it will match or beat a written commission quote.
Tradovate's current commission structure is more straightforward:
Free
- Micro futures commission
- $0.39 per side
- Standard futures commission
- $1.29 per side
- Plan cost
- $0
Monthly
- Micro futures commission
- $0.29 per side
- Standard futures commission
- $0.99 per side
- Plan cost
- $99/month
Lifetime
- Micro futures commission
- $0.09 per side
- Standard futures commission
- $0.59 per side
- Plan cost
- $1,499 once
| Tradovate plan | Micro futures commission | Standard futures commission | Plan cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0.39 per side | $1.29 per side | $0 |
| Monthly | $0.29 per side | $0.99 per side | $99/month |
| Lifetime | $0.09 per side | $0.59 per side | $1,499 once |
Tradovate commission per side by plan
The cheaper the trade, the more the plan costs: Monthly is $99 a month, Lifetime $1,499 once.
Exchange, clearing and NFA fees still apply to Tradovate's advertised commission rates.
That means the correct comparison is not simply:
AMP commission vs Tradovate commission.
It is:
total round-turn cost for your contract + platform + feed + market data + expected monthly volume.
When does Tradovate's $99 Monthly plan become cheaper than its Free plan?
Tradovate's pricing creates a useful break-even calculation that most broker comparisons miss.
For Micro futures, the Monthly plan saves $0.10 per side compared with Free. That is $0.20 per round turn.
$99 / $0.20 = 495 Micro futures round turns per month.
For standard futures, Monthly saves $0.30 per side, or $0.60 per round turn.
$99 / $0.60 = 165 standard futures round turns per month.
So, ignoring other costs and assuming your trading mix remains constant:
- Below roughly 495 Micro round turns per month, Tradovate Free is cheaper than Monthly on commissions alone.
- Above roughly 495 Micro round turns per month, Monthly begins to overcome its $99 subscription through lower Micro commissions.
- Below roughly 165 standard round turns per month, Free is cheaper on commissions alone.
- Above roughly 165 standard round turns per month, Monthly begins to make economic sense for standard contracts.
These calculations use Tradovate's current advertised $0.39/$0.29 Micro and $1.29/$0.99 standard commission rates. Exchange, clearing and NFA fees are excluded because the calculation is isolating the incremental commission saving between Tradovate plans.
How long does Tradovate Lifetime take to pay for itself?
Tradovate Lifetime costs $1,499 and cuts commissions to $0.09 per side for Micro futures and $0.59 for standard contracts.
Compared directly with Tradovate Free:
Micro futures
Free: $0.39 per side Lifetime: $0.09 per side Saving: $0.60 per round turn
$1,499 / $0.60 = approximately 2,499 Micro round turns
Standard futures
Free: $1.29 per side Lifetime: $0.59 per side Saving: $1.40 per round turn
$1,499 / $1.40 = approximately 1,071 standard round turns
That does not automatically mean Lifetime is the best choice after trade 2,499 or 1,071. The calculation ignores the time value of money, changes to commission schedules, mixed contract trading and the possibility that you stop using Tradovate.
But it gives active traders an actual decision threshold instead of simply assuming that "Lifetime = cheaper".
Which has lower margins, AMP Futures or Tradovate?
The current comparison is:
Micro E-mini S&P 500 (MES)
- AMP Futures
- $40
- Tradovate
- $50
- Lower margin
- AMP
E-mini S&P 500 (ES)
- AMP Futures
- $400
- Tradovate
- $500
- Lower margin
- AMP
| Contract | AMP Futures | Tradovate | Lower margin |
|---|---|---|---|
| Micro E-mini S&P 500 (MES) | $40 | $50 | AMP |
| E-mini S&P 500 (ES) | $400 | $500 | AMP |
AMP's September 2026 account documentation states that MES requires $40 per contract and ES requires $400 per contract for day trading.
Tradovate currently states that Micro E-mini futures have $50 day-trading margins and ES, NQ, YM and Russell 2000 E-mini contracts have $500 day margins.
For a trader specifically comparing AMP and Tradovate because of capital efficiency, AMP wins this part of the comparison.
The difference is 20% on those two examples:
- AMP MES margin is $10 lower than Tradovate's $50 requirement.
- AMP ES margin is $100 lower than Tradovate's $500 requirement.
That does not mean using the maximum leverage available is sensible. Day-trading margin is the collateral required by the broker to hold the position intraday, not the maximum amount you can lose on the trade.
Does Tradovate really have no minimum deposit?
Tradovate's current pricing material lists the account minimum as "any funding amount", and its homepage explicitly advertises "no funding minimum".
AMP requires a minimum $100 deposit to activate live trading connectivity and market data.
So Tradovate technically wins on minimum funding.
In practical terms, however, a trader still needs enough account equity to meet the applicable day-trading margin and withstand losses.
A $0 formal minimum does not mean you can trade a $500-margin ES position with no money.
For someone testing a broker with the smallest possible initial deposit, Tradovate removes one hurdle. For anyone depositing several thousand dollars to trade futures responsibly, the $100 difference is unlikely to determine which broker is better.
Which broker has better trading platforms?
AMP currently advertises more than 50 supported trading platforms. Its ecosystem includes choices across CQG, Rithmic, Trading Technologies and Teton, and AMP allows customers to switch between platforms using the same data feed without an additional platform-switching charge from AMP.
AMP's supported platform ecosystem includes options such as:
- Quantower
- Sierra Chart
- TradingView
- MetaTrader 5
- ATAS
- MultiCharts
- Jigsaw Daytradr
- numerous CQG and Rithmic-compatible platforms
AMP also provides the full version of Quantower to AMP customers without a separate Quantower platform licence fee.
Tradovate takes the opposite approach.
The Tradovate platform is cloud-based and designed to work across desktop, browser, iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Tradovate also provides access to NinjaTrader using the same Tradovate credentials and supports third-party integrations such as TradingView and Jigsaw.
So the platform verdict depends on what "better" means.
Choose AMP if you want freedom to select specialist software and data feeds.
Choose Tradovate if you want the platform, brokerage account and cloud infrastructure to work together out of the box.
AMP Futures vs Tradovate for TradingView
Tradovate offers direct TradingView integration. Its integration material says orders, balances, positions and margins can be synchronised across Tradovate and supported premium partner tools, with no Tradovate order-routing fee for Premium Partners.
AMP also supports TradingView as part of its broader platform ecosystem. AMP's main advantage is that TradingView sits alongside dozens of other platform options rather than becoming the centre of the brokerage proposition.
If you know you will trade exclusively through TradingView, compare the complete all-in cost for the same contract rather than choosing based on platform availability.
If you may later move from TradingView to Sierra Chart, Quantower or another specialist platform, AMP provides considerably more optionality.
Which broker has better data-feed flexibility?
AMP currently advertises four primary feeds:
- CQG
- Rithmic
- Trading Technologies
- Teton
Different feeds support different exchanges and trading platforms. AMP's CQG connectivity, for example, extends beyond CME Group markets to exchanges including Eurex, ICE, CFE/CBOE, ASX/SFE, HKEX, JPX and SGX.
That matters to traders who care about execution infrastructure or have platform-specific requirements.
A Sierra Chart trader may specifically want Teton.
A trader running software designed around Rithmic may specifically want Rithmic.
Another trader may need CQG because of their platform or exchange requirements.
Tradovate is more vertically integrated. That simplicity is an advantage for traders who do not want to care about data-feed architecture, but it provides less freedom to build a specialised stack around independent routing and connectivity choices.
Which broker has better market-data pricing?
AMP's non-professional exchange data pricing effective 1 June 2026 includes:
| CME data | AMP monthly price |
|---|---|
| CME Level 1 | $5 |
| All CME Group Level 1 | $15 |
| CME Level 2 | $17 |
| All CME Group Level 2 | $45 |
AMP states that CQG and Teton do not add an additional monthly data-feed charge beyond applicable exchange data fees, while Rithmic and Trading Technologies can incur additional connection or service fees.
Tradovate also charges applicable live market-data fees by exchange and professional status. Tradovate's pricing proposition should therefore be evaluated as commission plan plus clearing and exchange costs plus whatever market-data package the trader requires.
For either broker, a trader requiring full CME Group Level 2 data has a different cost profile from somebody who only needs CME top-of-book quotes.
Which broker has better customer support?
Tradovate provides phone and email support plus in-app live chat. Its current pricing information also advertises 24x5 technical support and a 24-hour emergency trade desk.
AMP advertises a 24-hour trade desk plus technical and systems support.
The practical difference is that Tradovate owns more of the interface the customer is interacting with.
If you are using Tradovate's own platform, the broker and platform-support relationship is relatively straightforward.
With AMP, support can involve several layers because your setup might include AMP, an independent platform vendor and a separate feed provider.
That flexibility is valuable when everything works. It can also create another variable to diagnose when something does not.
Is AMP Futures or Tradovate safer?
AMP Global Clearing is registered as a Futures Commission Merchant and is an NFA member under ID 0412490. AMP is also a clearing member of CME, CBOT, COMEX and NYMEX.
Tradovate's current disclosures state that brokerage services are provided through NinjaTrader Clearing, LLC, which is a CFTC-registered Futures Commission Merchant and NFA member under ID 0309379.
A meaningful due-diligence comparison should examine current regulatory records, capital disclosures, customer-fund segregation reports and the specific legal entity holding the account rather than treating marketing claims or app design as evidence of safety.
AMP Futures or Tradovate for scalping?
AMP has three advantages for this use case:
- Lower currently advertised MES and ES day margins.
- Multiple low-latency platform and data-feed configurations.
- An all-in commission calculator rather than requiring traders to compare brokerage commissions in isolation.
Tradovate becomes more interesting as volume increases because its commission schedule falls from $0.39 to $0.29 and eventually $0.09 per side for Micro futures depending on the selected plan.
A scalper should therefore compare the two brokers using an actual monthly model:
contract × round turns per month × commission × exchange fees × clearing fees × platform costs × data costs
Do not select a futures broker because one homepage advertises a smaller number than another. For an active scalper, a few cents multiplied by thousands of contract sides can matter more than almost every other advertised feature.
AMP Futures or Tradovate for beginners?
Tradovate combines the brokerage with its own web, desktop and mobile trading experience, offers simulated trading, and now gives Tradovate customers access to NinjaTrader using the same credentials.
That removes several decisions from the setup process.
AMP exposes much more choice.
That is useful to an experienced futures trader but can be unnecessary complexity for somebody who does not yet know why they would choose CQG over Rithmic or Teton.
The distinction is:
Tradovate is easier to start with.
AMP gives you more room to optimise the setup once you know what you need.
AMP Futures or Tradovate for mobile trading?
Tradovate was built around cloud-based cross-device trading and provides desktop, web, iPhone, iPad and Android access. Its custom dashboards and charts are designed to remain available across devices.
AMP supports mobile-capable platforms, but there is no single AMP application that defines the whole brokerage experience. The mobile experience depends on the third-party platform selected.
That is the same trade-off repeated throughout this comparison:
Tradovate controls the ecosystem. AMP gives you the ecosystem choice.
AMP Futures or Tradovate for Sierra Chart?
AMP supports the Teton data feed alongside CQG, Rithmic and Trading Technologies, giving traders much greater freedom to build around specialist software.
If your platform requirement already determines your preferred feed or routing infrastructure, AMP's technology-neutral approach is one of its strongest advantages over Tradovate.
When should you choose AMP Futures?
Choose AMP Futures if you want lower headline day margins, more trading-platform choice and more control over the technology behind your futures account.
AMP is particularly attractive for:
- Experienced self-directed futures traders
- Scalpers
- Sierra Chart users
- Quantower users
- Traders wanting Rithmic, CQG, TT or Teton
- Traders who frequently test different platforms
- Traders who want to optimise every component of their execution stack
Its current $40 MES and $400 ES day margins are also lower than Tradovate's currently advertised $50 and $500 equivalents.
When should you choose Tradovate?
Choose Tradovate if you want a modern integrated futures platform without having to assemble your own brokerage technology stack.
Tradovate is particularly attractive for:
- Newer futures traders
- Browser-based traders
- Mobile traders
- Traders who want Tradovate and NinjaTrader access
- TradingView users
- Traders who prefer predictable published commission tiers
- Traders who do not want a minimum funding requirement
Tradovate's Free plan also means you do not need to commit to a monthly platform subscription simply to use its core trading environment.
AMP Futures vs Tradovate: final verdict
AMP currently offers lower published MES and ES day margins, supports more than 50 platforms and gives traders a choice between CQG, Rithmic, Trading Technologies and Teton.
Tradovate has its own compelling advantages. It advertises no funding minimum, gives users a mature cloud-based desktop, browser and mobile platform, provides access to NinjaTrader through the same credentials and offers a transparent three-tier commission model.
So the decision comes down to what you are actually optimising:
Choose AMP Futures if you want to build the best trading stack for you.
Choose Tradovate if you want the trading stack largely built for you.
For an active trader, the final decision should be made only after modelling all-in costs using the same contract and expected monthly volume. Tradovate's subscription pricing can materially alter its economics at higher volume, while AMP's costs depend on the platform and data-feed configuration selected.
Futures trading involves substantial risk of loss. Low intraday margin increases available leverage and does not reduce the underlying risk of the futures position.

AMP Futures is the stronger default for experienced scalpers because of its lower current MES and ES day margins and broader execution-platform options. High-volume traders should still compare AMP's exact all-in quote against Tradovate Monthly and Lifetime because Tradovate's commission economics improve significantly with volume.
